doctors

hi everybody

my father in law is having a very very very very bad outbreak of eczema.

initially was bad but still managable. i brought him to NSC, the doc gave him cream n some steriods. got better after 1st week. during 2nd review, doc lowered the dosage. now it became worse! whole body flared up. swelling here and there.

they tested him for allergy but nothing came out. i took him back to NSC for 3rd time telling. he upped the steriods for oral consumption and told me to bring ym father back for review next week. today is the 4th day, the swelling on my father in law still remains. he applied the cream n moisturiser n ate the anti biotics as prescribed but to no avail.

i tried calling doc loke but he is on leave from 14-28 apr!

any other recommendations? my father is losing faith in the doctor.

It's...a wash? Can use it as cleanser also. Wash face, whole body, legs. Then rinse off. It has a nice medical smell. V good.

It looks like this on shelves :) Shld really go buy it! My sis had bad acne during puberty but now her skin is super smooth cus shes been using this since :) My brother too! And my older sis. :s13::s13::s13: All of us la.

Good cheap cure for eczema and acne.

Or if not Watsons, you can try going to certain NTUC. They have those...small area where they sell medicines one. Unity is it? Forgot the name. Always 2 large pack, free 1 small sample. Mom always go there buy.

Recommended it to my guy friend, and gave him a sample bottle. He used it and his pimples had cleared since sec sch too.

OH! And most important, EAT ALOT OF APPLES!!!! At least once a day :)

Idk why, my grandma everyday cut apple for me to eat. I eat for 1 2 weeks, my eczema isnt so bad. Dunno how apple works la. But it heals. :D

any1 got good doctor to treat eczema....My eczema is getting worse and i need to control...any TCM can treat eczema??tks

Eczema is a complex/complicated disorder. I study chinese medicine as a hobby despite being a western scientist myself, it seems that western science still cannot win the battle of skin disorders, only being able to prescribe steroids and other immunosuppressants to bring about apparent physical healing, but subsequently drug dependence.

Chinese medicine has been said to be able to cure eczema, but the success rate varies based on the case severity, accuracy of diagnosis by the physician, and the quality/appropriate-ness of the medicine.

If you take a search through pubmed, there is this article by one of the good beijing old doctors : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11789324

It talks about eczema of a few types that are seen in the chinese :

1) Dampness Heat
Abrupt, quick onset of skin lesions, burning sensation, miliary eruptions on various areas, large clusters of blisters with exudation, persistance itch, feverish sensation, thirst, restlessness, constipation, dark urine, red tongue with yellow coat, tight slippery and rapid pulse.

2) Excessive dampness due to spleen/digestive deficiency
Long duration, thick skin rashes with infiltration and pigmentation, or mild erosion with exudation, poor appetite, thirst, stool problems, clear urine, pale tongue with white coat, deep slippery or deep slow pulse

3) Wind dryness due to blood deficiency
coarse thick skin lesions, itching sensation, scratchmarks/crusts on skin, dark with pigmentation, pale corpulent tongue with white coating, deep slow pulse

other notes in the article, that the ailment is related to improper diets of excessively spicy, alcohol, pungent, oily, greasy food.. one may consider some dietary changes as well.

If willing to take a TCM approach, do check if the physician that one goes to is proper an registered under the TCMPB.. as there are too many rogue ones around.

I use cetaphil restoraderm moisturizer. Currently only available in USA and Canada I think. Still not available in Singapore. It's specially formulated for eczema/atopic dermatitis prone skin. Get it from eBay if you're interested. Go cetaphil.com check it out under products.

i cant find it in guardian/watson and unity(NTUC). Gonna try NSC next week.

Anyone managed to find this cetaphil restoraderm in sg? if dun have then no choice online buy...

I used to use QV but too expensive to continue.
As such, I have switched to Johnson & Johnson's pH 5.5.
A cheaper alternative that works for me.

I think everyone has their own different scenarios of eczema and ways to counter them anyway here's mine and i hope it's useful to anyone out there who has the same kind of problems i had,

I used to have very bad outbreaks on my limbs and joints especially at the back of my knees, it's so bad till once it dries up the skin is so stiff with discharges that you have problem straightening your legs let alone walk properly(hurts like mad, almost like a deep cut to the back of your knees), it was only a few months back that i discovered that bodyshop has this body butter thing that is fantastic it moisturizes very well, after i applied it the kept my skin moistured hence not hurting that badly.

Another thing is watch what shampoo or body wash you use, sometime this is a big factor of causing outbreaks but thn again it varies from person to person.

Anyway if you were to go to the polyclinic for medication they'll probably prescribe you with dermasol, if it works for you great but it wasn't the least bit useful for me, it's like every time i start to get better it itches like mad again.
After being fed up with the repeated cycle for almost a year i got a referral to NUH, the doctor this time gave me a new prescription, so far it's been fantastic, no outbreaks again as my skin gets better, it's so far been my best skin condition in years, best of all there isn't much itching so far... you guys might check these medication to see if it works for you...
i got cephalexin(anti-bodies),Prednisolone(supposingly this little fella is the one responsible for the healing, claims the doctor),fluocinolone acet(some cream) and the usual cetirizine(puts you to sleep so you wont scratch in the night).

Anyway sometimes if the itch is really bad you might wanna check if it's an fungal infection, cause during my bmt period i got fungal infection on my feet and i thought it was the usual eczema, hence condition got a lot a lot worst

Hope this helps :s8:

prednisolone is an oral steroid that suppresses ur immune system so that ur eczema doesnt flare up. doctors usually prescribe this drug where the is a bad flare up, to quickly bring things down

it definitely helps a lot, but u cannot take it on long term basis as there are side effects
