singtel is singtel, not cross link lah.
u sure they are cross link?

dont anyhow say haha. else alot of ppl would be affected trust me.

I'm pretty certain about this. The only thing I am uncertain is the exact amount you need to owe in order to be blacklisted under all the telcos.

The telcos do share a common database for such people. This is to prevent customers from racking up sky high charges, refusing to pay and then jump over to another telco thinking that the coast is all clear for them.

from my understanding this is not the case.
but they have preventive measure in place.

as for live example, one of my family member is a live example of such blacklisted, but no issue signing with other provider.

unless u seriously know of ppl blacklisted in A but cant sign up with B ba.

as long u dun pay them u r blacklisted over a period of time, i think small amount same case. else y they send u reminder $ when u r late for payment.

anyway i am certain there is no cross sharing of user/blacklisting.

I've met cases where customers with bad debt at telco A who were barred from signing up (or requiring a deposit for new signups) a new service at telco B.

Do you happen to work in a telco? :D

Probably it's the amount and/or blacklist reason (e.g. fraud) that matters.

Coming from an insider's source, this should be pretty accurate. Anyone working in a telco who would wish to comment on this?

Hi people,

Just wondering, anyone ever encountered/got involved in this 'scam' where someone(usually a friend) asks you to sign an iPhone plan with any of the telcos in Singapore. You don't get to keep the iPhone but you get paid about $200. The plan is registered under your name but they tell you that they'll foot all the bills as long as you change your billing address to their address.

Some friends and I fell prey for this and now we are receiving lawyer letters here and there. They have not paid a cent and the bill is at a whopping $1.3k.

Should I bring the police in on this? Anyone with advice would be much appreciated.

NEVER have your name in an account for other ppple to use, as anything happens, ACCOUNT HOLDER BEARS

IMO, every country has its credit bureau. I'm based in bkk, and we do have a centralised credit bureau. If you are in a debt, no matter how much it is, and when the telco/CC companies or whatever company decides to report to the credit bureau, then you are blacklisted by the bureau.

So when you apply for a CC, they will first check with the credit bureau, to see if you are blacklisted. If you are, then you in deep sh*t. You wouldn't be able to apply for a CC, loan from bank, buy a house/car/bike/anything via installments, etc.

This is how it works in Thailand.

they wont form an alliance one mah.
do u see them doing so? lol.

a good example is the tv market too. cos of ida.

and who is in a right mind to provide their blacklisted customer to a competitor?
unless its CBS lah, just show ur outstanding and the rate of return for ur CC bills etc.

In the past, if you have outstanding bills, they will just leave you as a blacklisted customer in their records.

But for now, they will send you lawyer letters should you owe them $.

But for such a case, you may report this as a fraud case to the relevant telco. Each telco has their own fraud department.

You will be blacklisted from taking any new services with ANY telcos in Singapore. Not only Singtel.

When you're young and still living off your parents, it's fine. Wait till when you get married or move out and need to get telco services registered under your own name.

If you only owe SingTel $ for example, ST blacklist you but you can still sign up with M1 / StarHub.

moi story is my own BB plan, 3month never pay bill, they throw the whole sum of 2.8k for me to pay, shoot lawyer letter. cannot reconnect, cannot use plan at all. singtel just shoot me to pay the whole lump sum. approx 50+ per mth bb plan plus their "free laptop" i damn piss off with singtel. they are not understanding. i took like, 1year to pay it off.
my tots to the TS is that, there is no way out of this but to pay $ and make sure you do it ontime and never do this mistake again.
all the best!

Duno whether to feel sry for u or not. Sometimes i pity own sporean for being too gullible. Well, living in a caged country for too long maybe. Anw, weigh the consequences whether to pay or get blacklisted wrt the suggestions. I do not have 1st hand exp in this matter. Its your responsibility/liability.

That is correct. Telco dont share info. Else would have heard of ppl saying they have no phoneline, mobile, internet which is not poss in todays context. Similarly these are minority cases which at most they write off, still highly profitable or 3 telcos wont survive for so long.

Similarly, cbs has no such data of telcos like what naruto mentioned for obvious reasons. Only banks will do that.
