From here,

what insurance that I should purchase?

http://www.vroomvroomvroom.com/Terms-and-Conditions/Excess-Reduction-Insurance.asp?popup=true

CDW (collision damage waiver) and LDW (loss damage waiver).
This relieves you of financial responsibility for a rental vehicle damaged by an accident, vandalism or theft. It usually costs between $9 and $20 per day. Note: Although the sale of CDW was formerly prohibited in New York state, recent legislative changes now allow it.

SLI (supplemental liability insurance).
This provides excess liability coverage up to $1 million. It usually costs between $7 and $9 per day.

PAI (personal accident insurance).
This covers you and all passengers in your vehicle for any medical expenses. It's not necessary for most renters already covered by personal health policies or travel policies. It usually costs between $3 and $5 per day.

PEC (personal effects coverage).
This provides coverage for theft of or damage to personal items inside the rental car. Again, it replicates coverage already provided to many renters through their own insurance policies. It usually costs between $2 and $5 per day.

Car rental companies often make these options even more confusing by combining two or more into insurance packages. You could evaluate each product separately.

I checked some travel insurance and they stated this Rental Vehicle Excess $500-$100. What is it for?

I'm looking at this as there's a 50% discount. What are your thoughts?

Not sure if this will be helpful.

My friend went free & easy for 2 months in US. He landed, bought a car, started driving, sold it at end of journey and flew back. Very much cheaper than rental.

LOL. Took me 1 to 2 mo1nths to sell my car. He could very well buy from a dealer at a premium and sell it back to the dealer at a huge loss. Should be at least a few Ks this way.

I think it will be much cheaper if zorrus lands in the US, buys one from Best Buy, use it with the US maps then return to SG to sell it in the HWZ Bazaar. :s13:

Its been done before by countless guys here.

Eh? If he is interested and you got National Parks Pass, can sell to him based on number of months/days left. IIRC, it is one year from date of purchase.

How does it look like ah? I don't see it in my stack of travel documents I brought back. Scared I threw it away before returning the car thinking I won't need it anymore.

Did you visit any US National Parks on your own? The fees will kill you at USD25 per person per entry to a park.

I was fortunate my friend in the US as the US National Parks Pass. It looks like a credit card. Costs USD80 for the pass and 3 of us visited 3 parks. Imagine if we didn't have it. USD75 x 3 and this is excluding the car which is also charged fees!

I think next time tell anyone going to the US to get the US National Parks Pass if they intend to visit even just one US national by car.

Come back already, can sell it away at fraction of the cost to another fellow SGer going to the US and visiting a national park.

I can imagine some market going on here in this forum. Got people selling the pass like selling the Krisflyer Miles :s13:

No need. You just drop by any National Park Service office and buy. There is even an office in Fisherman's Wharf in SF. Since it is valid for one year, come back and based on expiry like COE, sell to the next guy who is going to the US and needs it. It is available to anyone!

No GPS is separate. Doesn't come with the pass. :s13:
