hi guys,
a quick question..will upgrading to a ssd void my hdd hardware warranty?
will the technician know that i have taken out my hdd before if i replace the ssd with the original hdd prior servicing?
i see some sellers selling OEM intel ssd. is it okay to get it from them? and will using OEM ssd damage my laptop in any way if it happens to be defective?
thanks!!
Anyone could recommend me a 120GB SSD? Wanna install my OS + a few other apps on it. Total noob about SSD here. Thanks!
For total Noob, Intel 320 SSD is recommended.
The Intel SSD toolkit which is a utility for their SSDs makes it easy to optimise SSDs and also to secure-erase when necessary. Good luck trying to secure-erase other brands of SSD.
I have both OCZ and Intel SSDs so as far as I know, OCZ doesn't have any utility comparable to Intel's toolkit.
fresh install or clone?
Just to add on. Intel 320 series has potential FW issues currently ( Google Intel 320 8mb )
Some users encountered but some have also been using without problems.
Hi, I'm a newbie and am intending to get the intel 320 >100gb. Can any intel users advise where can get the ssd? So I won't tio chop..
A seller is selling the oem 160gb version w 3months personal warranty for s$250. Is this worth it?
and how to see if my laptop can support which SATA version? its currently using SATA 500gb (pro36sd).
thanks!
Yeah, I saw that post too. Most likely that SSD is not a local set so warrenty will be a problem.
Some of the more popular shops are Fuwell, PC Themes, TradePac... you won't go wrong with these shops.
The problem with SSD is that it should not fail that easily but there are some brands that are having bugs issues and Intel 320 is one of them. However this is really down to luck because it only happens to a small percentage of ppl..
Posted in their forum...
I got this SSD during comex and really feel whether does it really worth buying but after looking at the read/write speed, I had no second doubt.
Got home,
- use the quick format method to start off as mentioned in this forum and did a fresh installation of WIN 7 Ult- 64bits and works fine.
- I did another fresh installation of the same O/S on my old 250GB HDD for contingency. (make SSD offline by plugging out the sata and pwr cable)
- After the second installation of the O/S, I make it offline and plug back the SSD
- PC unable to boot up with the follow message IIRC "BOOTUP MANAGER MISSING" <--- First Sign of Disappointment and wtf!
- 1TB HDD as a secondary active drive, SSD Main active and 250GB HHD offline
- Recover the error by using the O/S cd
- Work pretty fine for the first few days and the WEI give me a rating of 7.8 on my primary hard disk ....this is really impressive!
- Today BSOD, followed by SSD totally disappear from the BIOS <--- Total Disappointment and double wtf
- Recovering method, recycle power twice and the SSD recovered......WTF is this SSD? Is it really stable???
