Mind sharing too. Interested in 2-ply egyptian cotton shirt too

Oops...maybe my previous posting not clear enough which caused some confusion. I intended to mean there were customers walking into my tailor, asking whether he has $50 2-ply egyptian cotton...when there is no way he could provide at that price. His shirts starts from $90 for the most basic cotton.

Mind sharing your tailor?

Tessuti. More expensive than most tailors in Pennisular, but I like their product and service.

Hi Guys,

I have tried the following

CYC ($150-$180)- Not bad, good quality and fit but price a bit high
Aston Blake ($180)- Too expensive and quality not to my standard
Alan Frigate (spelling?) ($150- $180) - It's off the rack but quality and cutting is to my liking but price is expensive and design is limited.

Thinking of making some new shirts and was wondering which tailor will suit me more? Budget $120-140 and not particular about brand names these days.

Thinking of changing tailors.

My current tailor doesn't have much variety of cloth for 2 ply cotton and his styling is more made to measure than bespoke.

Alot of customisations need to be suggested by me.

But have to juggle budget, can't find a better tailor for $90. Have to pay more for Oxford or Dylan & Sons?

I can't think of any bespoke shirt tailors in Singapore. $90 budget for each shirt is probably at the mid range of the mtm market.

Woolblend is recommended. 100% wool is even better, but cleaning is $$$ in the long run.

Just some history on this retired tailor doing home-base appointment.

  1. Material are mostly the same you will find in shop like Far East Plaza, Raffles Place, Thomson Plaza, Penisular Plaza but workmanship quoting pricing is totally different because due to home base. Same material @ Penisular about $220+ for a pant, @ Praise is about $120+
  2. 30 years+ of experiences and currently retired and doing home base tailoring
  3. Felt that his tailoring is based on customer best interest instead of monetary profit interest.
  4. Personal tailor local celebrity of "Chen Jian Bin" and some uncle actor that I wasn't born in that era
  5. Multiple tailor contract for MNC, mainly American and Japanese MNC. Tailor for their whole company from below to top level
  6. Price differences of between 30% to 60% off local market prices which is a reasonable & affordable price
  7. Tailoring Master, one of his student is the master cutter/designer for Wing Tai Asia
  8. You may purchase you own material and tailor make for you
  9. Posting up this review because I'm a satisfied customer

Posting up the photo later!

Hi there,

what's the quality and price like? Do they tailor blazer as well?
And is it cheaper to buy blazer off-the-shelf, or tailor-made?

Thank in advance.

Woolblend is recommended. 100% wool is even better, but cleaning is $$$ in the long run.

I recommend only 100% wool. If your job involves a lot of outdoor activities, then go for a weight of 7-8 oz, and a weave that is porous for breathability. If your job is largely office-bound, I think you can go up to 10-11 oz. My heaviest trousers are like 13 oz, but they are quite warm :)

You will of course insur some maintenance cost in terms of dry cleaning, but this could be minimised by not dry-cleaning after each single wear. You could also consider investing in a garment steamer($150-$200) which will further reduce the need for dry cleaning.

First time tailoring (Thanks for all the recommendations)

hi guys, this is my first time tailoring, so I tried calling in a few of the tailors recommended by you guys. I think Mr Frankie Ong (funny name) provides the best deal, maybe cos he can cut cost by operating from home. I just started working, so am not looking to spend too much.

But anyway, after meeting him I thought he was very willing to share alot of info with me (reg cloth & industry practices, apparently most tailor nowadays outsource their sewing to Batam island, but he does it himself with his wife) and was pretty direct to me about the price and how much more for each detail.

I tailored 2 shirt and a pants, and altered some of my older clothes. (Japan cotton $55/shirt with extra detail, polyester mixed pants $45, alteration is around $4/ piece). I think the workmanship is exceptional for such a cheap price. Next time I'm coming back for the Italian 2 ply cotton (he quoted $90) and bespoke blazaar ($250, but depends on cloth). Only downside is he is pretty hard to find in the Bishan area and he is very busy (apparently he has quite a following from the internet). I recommend making an appointment (Frankie Ong phone number 64568457, HP: 83117580).

Easy. Kevin Seah at 28th Fevrier. Shirts at 250 up - although I read in last Friday's Urban that it's 300, which could mean a price hike since my last pickup. Level of customisability is sick. When he opened his folder of buttons, I pretty much blew a fuse in my brain.

I seen his work. Not quite sure his shirts are bespoke. I would say more towards high-end Mtm. I could be mistaken though...

Really is it so

Definitely $250 is too much. and really why would anyone spend that much on shirts? You can buy lots of things in that $250. :s31:
