I saw this feature of Samsung SCX-4705ND,

Network Interface Ethernet 10/100 Base TX wired LAN

The difference between this and a wireless printer is just that I have to connect an ethernet cable from the printer to my router is it? After that then i can print from any computer that's connected to that wifi network?

Yes it is workable via that method. If distance too far, you can get an adapter to act as proxy between your printer and the router.

You may want to consider Fuji Xerox WC3220 last show $429 + free 2k page yield toner compared with that model.
Same mono duplex 4in1
3 years on-site warranty but Fuji Xerox Toner cheaper.

Standard page yield 2k $83
High page yield 5k $163

haha actually a lot of ppl getting 4in1 for various reasons beside fax. Like for Fuji Xerox M205fw is because of the wireless function as a value buy printer. Some cause of OCR(Optical character recognition) software, etc etc.

Fuji Xerox would be better, agreed by HWZ editors, but the model don't have duplex.
Brother model is the next best if you need duplex.

Haha actually OCR is very seldom used by people. But if you want to scan books into ebook format it would come in handy.

Recommendation for color printer

Please share some recommendations for Colour printer (A4)
suitable for use by a Design student (me) (^_^)
Value-for-money & of gd quality (since i'm printing my design sch work)

No clear preference for either Inkjet or Laser though..
But i think Laser printer will be more cost-effective?

It would be nice if the printer also have a scanner function.

I print out documents that contain a mixture of simple text and photos. These documents are then signed by someone. Once the documents are signed, they need to be scanned.

I find the printout from my current Canon Pixma MP510 not that great when printed on A4 paper (100gsm). Plus the ink seems to run out every often. Hence thinking of the switch to laser printer.

You think worth it?

I would suggest that you bring your sample down to the booth and ask them sample print for you. Cause the quality of printout is subjective. What i think is good may not be good enough for you

In fact hp 8600A plus is the top tier model for inkjet. Yes the ink indeed cost up to 50% lower than laser for this model. However, that is assuming it doesnt dries up.

Print out quality not as good as laser. Warranty 3 years compared with fuji xerox 4 years.

If quality is not a important factor, you could consider this inkjet also.

I've actually written a complaint about the Fuji Xerox M205F
But i'd still recommend it. Weird.

Other than scan quality ( which was subpar, the printer performs admirably

i purchased the Fuji Xerox M205F in 2011, and just purchased the CP105B for its colour capabilities. I was tempted by the other cheaper brands, such as Brother and Samsung, but 2 things stood out in the Fuji Xerox offerings

Length of Warranty ( This covers the head )
The "head" is not built into the toners

Something that is different about laser printers compared to inkjets is that there is

"head" part to the toner ( In Inkjets, think of this as the container with IC chips where u put the ink cartridges onto". Some printers have the head attached to the toner, which makes for high toner refill costs.

Waste Container " Something like a dustbin" for excess toner powder to go into. There is a lifespan for this as well. Eg: 10k - 25k printouts

For comparison purposes
My Canon inkjet, whose head spoilt miraculously just after the warranty period, cost me $85+ to replace. And the printer conked out a few months later. This was not one of the cheaper Canon inkjets but more on the mid level ones. around @$299.

Refill Toners
Check with the Supplier if the refills will pass the Toner "Original" Checks
I usually order mine from Orink coz of the doorstep delivery.
Also, do check the refill vendor's offerings. Mono Printers, it is easy to decide, but for colour toners, the refill vendor's promo usually ask that one purchases the full CMYK set to have a reduced price. Since black is the most used colour, it is reasonable to expect it to finish sooner....

Warranty Service
i'm not sure about other brands but for Fuji Xerox, the repair guys are prompt and they usually come down with a new unit. They have a 1 hour repair service standard. btw
Warranty wise, i'm not one to spend taxi $$$ or carpark $$$ to lug my printer to the repair centre. So, i do appreciate this doorstep service as well.

Just my 2 cents and for the record, I am not employed by any of the printer manufacturers...

I need duplex printing cause I don't want the hassle to turn pages (not sure if I need to turn each page as it comes out or turn the whole stack to print the 2nd side, though). And I prefer wifi cause it I have the freedom to locate the printer at various places as the need arise, though ethernet may be a good compromise.

I just wonder if I should have bought a laser colour duplex printer with duplex ADF scanner in the first place ? I saw some priced at $900/-. What is the cheapest that gives the features of MX886 + brother HL-2270dw combined ? May be I could sell my MX886 or give it to somebody, so that I could save some space.

Just get a laser printer like brother HL-2270dw to print your duplex documents. Cause while you retain your canon mx-886 you also retain not just your duplex adf scanning but also your colour printing. Since you print more in mono it is better for you to get 2 printers. Now most value buy mono printers still do not have duplex scanning yet.

OKI MC361dn? But no wireless. It would be good if you stick with the current plan and wait like a few more years before you buy. But no doubt it is within the $800-$900 range.
