the internet in unilodge hasn't been giving me problems other than the first week that i arrived. it constantly cuts off. now it has been up and running quite well. not sure about downloads from torrent. doing school stuff, fb, youtube are quite fast to load.

it's a nice place to stay in if you're loaded and request for a top level unit. nice view and you won't get dirty water coming down from the balconies above you.

Hmm your suggestions is to take temp lodging and locate apartments nearby afterwards?

Yup. By all means go for unilodge/urbanest if you are loaded and money is no issue. If not, you are best served crushing at a friend's living room for a few weeks until you find housemates and accommodation. Might speed up the whole process if you can find people in the same shoe to room before heading over.

You can easily rent a decent 2 room unit with another in Toowong or Indoor near to the mall/bus/train station for under two hundred each. Cheaper even if you settle for a place further away from transport. St Lucia might prove slightly costlier but most of my mates with single rooms are still paying under 230.

i've brought 15k before. not a big deal. just make sure u declare it. they'll ask u to fill up a form and that's about it. also, do print out your school fees just in case they want some of proof as to why u want to bring so much in. but the so far i've not been asked to produce any proof.

UQ offered me 32 block credits...

Anw, anyone staying at UniResorts?
Tho they provide internet services, is it possible to get your own provider?
And any idea how is it like to live there as well as are there any TPG shops around that area?

Thanks :o:o

normally such places don't allow you to have ur own internet. u might have to ask the apartment manager.

tpg is online only service. no shops at all.

Hello guys,

Ill be heading there too in july 2012 for ard 3 sems.

need a few advice from u all regarding accommodation

unilodge seems to have quite a poor rep here, but is this one any good? (Student accommodation Brisbane | Apartments | Studio | Queensland | University | Australia)

seems good to me and id prefer studio apartments.

the other one is altitude apartments which isnt mentioned much in this thread. any comments on that one?

Im slightly concerned with the utilities bill as it's not covered under the rent.

it says around 20+ per week on the website but is it really the case in reality? or rather, how much can i use for $20+/wk?

lastly which one of the two choices is better? oh please do tell me if there are any other choices as well.

thanks!!

unilodge in the city is basically crap. been to my fren's studio. u pay about 300+/week for that convenience of living in the city. for that price u can get a 1 bedroom apartment at altitude. studio is alot cheaper than unilodge.

i used to live at altitude apartments and i really like that place. good management & if u're lucky u might get a good view of mount coot tha or abit of city view. utilities is paid every 3months. mine came up to about 300 for 6months for a 2 bedroom apartment. the only gripe is the internet service is really crap. first 200mb free. then it's 4gb for $20, 10gb for $40, 15gb for $60, 30gb for $100. where an $80 but can't rmb the cap.

have stayed & have shifted back to altitude apartments again. generally i would advise against the study abroad package because it's paying 1 lump sum, i.e. paying 6months straight upfront.

management there is good but it is australia & it can take quite awhile when it comes to maintenance due to their slow culture. racist? definitely not. most residents there are usually students (local & international). they do have a strict policy on noise. noise curfew is between 1030pm to 7am and a fine of $100 as well if there is a complain.

yup for a sem. but u have to pay thr full amount upfront for the cost of 6months rather than monthly. the rent there is charged monthly. first time shifted out cos i'll be living with some friends & no other reasons. i liked my apartment there as i can see mount coot-tha from my apartment. everyday can see sunset. my current one can see the city, means free show when there's fireworks.
