Well..... at least you know that place where finance rains money exist.

Not many people know it.

Those who don't make it there will still have much crumbs to pick.

There is no place for Engineers where is rains money. Don't even talk about crumbs for those engineers who don't make it. But fret not .... singapore has always been lack of taxi drivers and bus captains.
I kinda stopped reading your previous post when you said your friends made 6 mths bonus doing backend work. Even if that were true for them, it isn't true for a majority of backend staff. Don't let your sample size of 3 lead you into forming such a rosy picture of banking. For every 3 ppl like your friends, there are many others going nowhere.

if price go down mean the country is in a very bad state, company go bankrupt, high unemployment, high crime rate.
more likely purchasing power go into very low or zero.

I don't think U are thinking on the correct line.
if price go down why can it be a bad state?
purchasing power do down and price go down cannot co exist.
wrong argument here...

so no experts can help my cousin out?
or can show me a country I can run to that provide that?

You can choose not to believe or fault my sampling size. (Then of course... my sampling size is not restricited to only 3).

But at least you are well informed and you know you had this info available during your schooling years.

Wish you all the best.

Singapore needs more engineers.

Oil is (was) slightly better. But oil is tough and dirty job.

Oil is off shore.

Oil is smelly

Oil production has peaked and the only way its going is down.

And sales engineers basic is low.

Those who did oil in the early and heyday years would be in the better of engineering world.

Who is blaming what?

The point is that the capitalist world we are living now is skewed to bankers where the money is.

And the engineers will always be cheap cheaper and cheaperest.

If there is anyone to blame ... it your be yourself, to choose to study engineering .... especially after knowing what kind of pay engineer gets compared to banking.

Unless engineering is your passion and you die die also want to study engineering that is ....

Please do not get confuse.

  • Studying engineering is one thing.
  • Working as an engineering related job is another thing.
  • Working in an engineering related industry is a different thing.

From your threads, anyone working in a bank irregardless of job is earning big money while those working in engineering job or/and in engineering related industry is earning low salary.

In this case, how you explain about Engineers working in the bank? Low pay or high pay?

If high pay, it is wrong of you to say engineers will always be cheap cheaper and cheaperest.

If low pay, it is wrong of you to say that many hidden goodies in banking line that mislead anyone working in the bank is earning a lot of money.

Back to the main topic of Engineering Degree Vs Business Degree.

You did mention about beauty of a business degree is not much skill required and ordinary but it gets business graduate unlimited pay.

So my question is do business graduate earning unlimited pay in engineering related industries such as oil & gas industry?

If the answer is yes, then it is wrong of you to tell people not to go into engineering related industries such as oil & gas industry.

If the answer is no, then it is wrong of you to tell people that business graduate can get unlimited pay.

Okay .... I guess you can put it this way ... on the study, working as and working in is different things.

Maybe I should clarify myself. Of course it is not everyone working in bank is earning big money. That obviously can't be true.

Those engineers who managed to jump ship to bank and manage to get high pay ... congrats to them. They are then no longer engineers. They are those lucky few who became bankers with engineering back ground.

Going back to the Biz vs engr thing.

Did I mentioned not much skilled is required? I was only repeating someones quote.

Of course not all business grads get unlimited pay. That obviously can't be true.

I know engineers are paid little as compared to the financial sector people but you are getting really ridiculous.

If you hate being an engineer and since money matters to you so much, why don't you just spend more effort in switching to the financial sector right now instead of whining about it over here?

I don't need to believe or not believe your views. As someone who got into front office and knows the kind of sh*t that everyone throws at the backoffice, I know for a fact that you've been painting too rosy a picture for banking in general.

Am I really being ridiculous?

I don't know if you are old enough ... but if you are ... you would remember the movie Full Monty. Go and watch the movie.

I was watching CNBC yesterday and listening to OBAMA's speech ... go and listen and pay attention.

During 08/09 financial crisis .... if you did pay attention ... go and think back what the street protest was about. Are those protesters being ridiculous? Did the Govs changed anything? Is it how the capitalist world works?

Not all that study business will succeed. They will be failures.

My advise (for those who bother to listen) ... are for the smarter students. Those that can make it to the better class of their year. Those that will excel and strive to succeed.

Coz it will be very su ...c k y to work our ass out only to find out you picked the wrong subject :)

most that study business end up as insurance agent, used car dealer or office admin.

If I have painted too rosy a picture for banking ...

Then engineering will be a nightmare ....

The choice is yours.

Engineering is bad, but banking in Singapore for most people isn't rosy at all.

I've already made my choice, if you read my previous post properly.
