Hi,
Thanks for the help. Would distill water be sufficient actually?
Well.. this is really up to preference...
If you do some research you will find there are many pros and cons of using distilled water vs premixed coolants..
Here are some...
Premixed coolants:
+ all in one solution, you're set to go.
+ it has anti corrosive components & biocide already added
+ you can find a preferred color & usually it's UV reactive
- colored solution might stain tubing (the extent differ, normally depending on the color)
- premixed components might fall out and clog your system after a while
- really expensive in comparison.
Distilled water:
+ cheap and available!
+ no impurities, means no clogging.
- need to handle corrosion/algae prevention separately
- it's clear in color.
(i'm not 100% sure about this, due to mixed opinions) but i found more articles that says distilled water might actually give better temperatures.. reason being that heat capacity of premix solutions are normally less than water. thus less capability to carry heat... (honestly, i doubt this makes much difference.. i don't really count it in my decision making)
personally, I find there are more cons using coolants to offsets its benefits... so I'm using distilled water for my rig.. I think the clear color actually looks classy, so I stuck with clear water clear tubing.. if you want it colored, you can choose to use colored tubing rather than using dyes..
and, corrosion normally incur if you have aluminium exposed by water in your loop.. don't really need if you don't have any (my block and rad are both copper)
biocide, you can either user pure silver, "kill coils" or use a liquid biocide...
silver is a "drop and forget" solution, quite elegant. (tho some people reported tube clouding might be caused by silver in a loop)
EDIT:
OR liquids.. in the us there are PTNuke and Dead water sold in watercooling shops/websites... personally, i went to a pet store and got myself an anti-algae solution..

a few drops and done.. just assembled mine, so no guarantee on how it'll go in a year or so..
yup. that's my 2c worth!
