means i can just buy this and installed in my bro's HP notebook and installed intel drivers then good to go!?

It means that if you put in the card and it doesn't boot successfully you have to change back the old card, find a BIOS Version which has the whitelist removed, flash it then put in the new card.

The thing is I don't know if your laptop model's BIOS have a whitelist.
If it has and it doesn't recognise the card it will refuse to post you will see error message during booting.
Put back the original card and it will work again.

If that happens you have to find some BIOS hackers to modify the BIOS to remove the whitelist and flash the BIOS so it can boot properly.

One reason why I hate HP and Lenovo.

Your call.

Depending on brands, OEM laptops say from lenovo, and ESPECIALLY hp usually have a bios list of acceptable hardware

HP always like to bundle Broadcom wifi adapters, so the need to flash with other 3rd party component is high.

The best to buy is an acer.

whitelist means the network card has been hardcoded into the bios thus making hardware changes impossible unless you flash it?

Can I add a second WiFi antenna to the A1 to improve reception?

Yes, some A1 users have bought a second antenna but check first if your A1 has a second port for it, as some A1s do not have it. You can check by unscrewing the HD panel.

If you have the second port, you can buy an antenna like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
http://www.oxfordtec.com/us/p120/Lap...duct_info.html
To install it, remove the HD drive, screw it it and route it towards the speakers.

OEM buys different batches/model, so long as its listed after their bulk purchase, same/different model will still work without flashing.

However, maybe say the laptop model is a budget line, so the higher end card(for the better laptop models) may not be listed in the BIOS because it will not ever be a component, hence will not work, even if its from the same brand source.

Every computer hardware has a Device Identifier.
Whitelist means allowed list as opposed to blacklist which means denied list.
If the laptop bios has a whitelist it will check if the network card device id matches what is coded into the bios.
If yes then boot, no then error message.

To get past that you need BIOS hackers help to modify the bios to bypass the check routine or overwrite the device id with your new network card.
TS flashed an unlocked BIOS which means the same thing.

Don't think about asking OEM to help you, they will say this "device is not compatible" or similar excuses.
