Haven't posted here for a while so I thought about sharing my experience for the past few months. I'm using a 5012NV with .29 firmware for the past year or so without a single problem other than mio TV freezing because of homeplug issues. I must say this modem is quite excellent. The last restart was about 85 days ago and it has been running ever since without a single downtime. The only gripes I have is the poor wireless speed and range and also SingTel's stupid international speed cap. I really miss the days where I could hit a constant 18MB/s from Megaupload in the early months of Fibre service when the cap wasn't implemented yet.

Any idea what's the best configuration to cut down on electricity usage when not using wifi etc? For instance reducing power transmit? Need advice..

Need Advice

Right now I'm using Singtel's 200 mbps fibre plan with the black mio box. I'm using homeplug to connect to my room as my desktop has no wireless card. This goes the same for my bro. The master homeplug is on an extension and so is mine as well. My brother's connection is worst as his extension is already on another extension lol.

Theoretically my desktop can only reach 100 mbps as it is a very old com and on the 100mbps ethernet port. But by using homeplug and extensions etc, the speed will inevitably drop significantly. Additionally, the homeplug keeps getting DC`ed and have to keep restarting the homeplug. Sadly, direct connection is not an option for me as it is too far.

As of right now, my average speed, based on 3 tests, on speedtest.net;

Homeplug in my room
Ping - 20.67
D/L - 30.47

On my macbook pro Wireless in my room
Ping - 10.67
D/L - 33.4

On my macbook pro Wireless in the hall (Nearer to router, less obstruction)
Ping - 4.67
D/L - 70.47

At least, in theory, homeplug is the worst option for me. Even by wireless, I get lesser ping for about the same performance.

Therefore, I hope I could get some advice/suggestions.

1) Need some insights on the performance of a 802.11n wireless card on a desktop.

2) Should I get a better router and/or shift the router to a better position based on these test results?

3) My room also has an xbox so I hope I can improve my connection to it as well though it is not a priority.

Is an Access Point a good option? AP direct connection on my desktop with better wireless for my macbook and xbox.

I'm not very tech savvy so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm also using Aztech Homeplug AV (latest firmware). So far my result is: 45/25Mbps & 18ms ping. I tested on port 1 (1Gbps) & other ports (100Mbps) of mio box but found negligible speed difference. Without Homeplug (i.e. direct wired to mio box), it's 110Mbps (port 1) vs 90Mbps (other ports).

I don't think it's worth spending money & effort to get another 10Mbps or so increment in local d/l speed. As most of our traffic are to/from outside S'pore, you can't see the diff because SingNet caps the international bandwidth at 15Mbps; and that's is theoretical so a typical speed may be as low as 2Mbps!

Wondering if anyone was able to configure the 5012NV-002 to allow for Bonjour MDNS detection? My Apple devices, iPad and iPhones are not able to detect my computer which is setup as an Airplay receiver. Strangely enough, my android devices (through doubletwist, airsync) work fine. Any luck?

Hi guys,

OK.. I just upgraded my ADSL to Singnet Fibre.. To cut long story to short 1..

I purchased a TP-Link 1043ND to make it as my main router due to intermittent connection from 5012NV to my another TP-Link Repeater. I already bridge the connection based on another thread and everything is working fine.

SO>> MY PROBLEM :

When I connect directly to my 1043ND i get like 85mbps speed BUT when i connect to my repeater I get like 0.7 to maximum of 2mbps which is very slow.. imagine that.. I can't even watch youtube streaming without any buffer..

My connection is : TP>ONT>5012NV>1043ND>repeater (already tried like 3 different repeaters with same results) to my computer and other wireless stuff.

The weird thing is when I plug in 1043ND directly to 5012NV before bridge mode I don't have this problem.. As in I still get 15-20mbps even with 2 repeaters but the problem is intermittent connection which I already found the solution by putting the 5012NV to bridge mode as suggested by many forum members here.

I've searched for whole forum before I ask this so of there is any thread which I happen to miss please kindly direct me to it.

Eh guys, my 5012nv modem died today. Still under Singtel's warranty cos I only had the fibre network installed in july.

The problem with the modem is related to the power. The power supply's led indicator is constantly lit when the modem is turned off via the power button on the rear of the modem. But when I urn the button on, the power supply's led indicator starts to flicker and the modem will not boot up.

I called the Singtel help desk. They say must wait till 19th Oct for the technician to come down to check and replace the modem. And now I have no Internet, no miotv, no house phone for the next 6 days. Anyone experience technical problems with the modem and exchanged the modem at a shop or something instead of waiting? Dunno whether the CSO is bull****ting me or what..

Take a picture of the power adapter and post here, not on the LED but on the specifications.

Did anyone manage to find a solution to this problem? I can't connect my iPhone to my NAS print server which is broadcasting through bonjour as well.

You are a genius. The 2701HGV-E is working with the fibre network (but speed cap. Who cares, as long as I can use the internet till the techie comes)... You want me to take photo of the power adapter specs right?

Yes?
Altho I think 5012NV is not 12v and hence you cannot use your current adapter

Gigabit port

Hi guys, is there any configuration required to use the gigabit port? My PC's Internet connection works fine when connected to all other LAN ports, but if I tried switching it to the gigabit port it either fails to get an IP address or it does but cannot access any Internet pages.

Cable is Cat 5e, PC's Ethernet connection can support 1Gbps. Tried with MacMini on that port, same problem.
