May I show you one example to illustrate why Space+Expośe is better.
Typical scenario: 5 apps in desktop 1 of which Mail has 3 windows open, and 2 apps in desktop 2. When I activate Mission Control, this is what happens:
The 3 open windows in mail cannot be seen, and i need to go to Mail app and use App Expośe/show app window. Also, the apps in desktop 2 cannot be seen. i need to navigate to desktop 2 and activate mission control to see the apps running in desktop 2.
Compare with this:
Really miss the Space + Expośe...
Better or not depends on how your workflow is. No worries, I have sufficient knowledge of the progress of Mac OS X since 10.0 till 10.8, so I know what your experiences are.
I will just point out based on your description. First to move from one screen to another, you can do it within MC, you don't have to go out of MC and in again just to see the Windows found in another screens, just swipe left or right inside MC using 4 fingers.
If you want to expand all windows of an application, select the application and perform a 4 fingers swipe down and you will see all windows of only 1 application.
I own the magic mouse, but of course magic mouse cannot perform a 4 fingers swipe, so I use the hot corners to perform show desktops, show all windows, show application windows. To go into MC, I just need to double tap on the mouse.
While you may claim MC doesn't suit you, I wouldn't call it sucky, it's just your preferences or it doesn't suit your way of using it. You can't have interfaces that suits all users
Why MC approach to differentiate between all apps and all windows works for me. I likely will have 5 or more terminals running along with 3 browsers, and 1 mail client. I pin my mail client in screen 2 so that it doesn't obscure my workflow in screen 1. All my browsers always pin to screen 1. I have tons of terminals running at once due to the number of servers I need to connect to.
Without MC way of expand only application windows, I end up with browsers and other applications in my way when I need to quickly jump from one terminal to another. Even with my 17" screen, I find at times, I have lack of screen asset.
At times, I also need to open multiple browsers type, one chrome, one firefox, one safari and even one parallels with IE in it for development and testing purposes. Without MC new feature, it will be a chore for me to select the small windows in the expanded mode. Showing just one application windows makes it alot easier for me.
Like I say, it's your workflow, if it doesn't suit you, feel free to choose something else. But I don't quite agree MC sucks
