Anyone knows where I can get some decent shoe trees in Singapore?

I got mine from Shukey at Suntec City. But I must admit it was pricey, $50 in fact.

If you want it cheap, I suggest buying online. If you want REALLY cheap, buy in bulk from Shoe trees - Accessories - Shoe Trees - Bexley

But just as with shoes, the ideal thing to do is to try it in person to see if it fits - in this case, fit your shoes. Depending on your shoe shape/last, the shoe and shoetree size may not match.

Does Muji allow you to take out the trees from the bag to test fit on your shoes?

I researched about shoes for the past 4 months. It began with a simple question - what makes a $1000+ pair better than Bata ones.

I've been walking around trying to decide if I wanted to pay 3/4x my usual budget (~$100) for a nicer looking pair. So I went online to find out what's about a particular brand (I forgot which one). So there I learnt about shoe construction. Now I feel that local shops are ripping us off BIG TIME.

There's a reason why Singapore is not a shopping paradise. I read someone comment that it used to be the British coming here to buy stuff, now it's Singaporeans going to UK to buy their stuff. The Singapore market is just too small for respectable shoemakers to even bother entering.

Given decent care, a Goodyear welted pair of shoes can last up to 20 years, and good leather won't crease that much. Compare that with your run-of-the-mill Frank Williams, that's probably like 10x the usual shoe lifespan.

Ppl in the US can actually get decent GY welted shoes for 100 bucks. Think about it. What can 100 bucks get you in Singapore? Solution - don't bother buying cr*p here. Go try on shoes in HK or research enough to get your size right and buy online.

Aye, aye, I second that.

Thanks for the recommendations.. will check out muji...

How do you know if the shoe tree fits the shoe well?
By making sure that the toe parts stays flat instead of pointing upwards?

If the spring tension is not too tight, and is able to keep the entire shoe tensioned from heel to toe, then it fits well.

Never claim to be a shoe snob?

You sounded exactly like one. Or pretended to be Mr Know-it-all less than 2 pages back.

Quoting from Wikipedia doesn't make you right. Being able to Google doesn't make you smarter than the next, just less lazy.

Dude,

You wish to laugh at me a second time. Sure. Go ahead if it makes your ego feel better.

I already stated that I am no shoe expert. All I googled was the definition of the word 'bespoke'. Sure call me lazy but I don't have to look up a physical dictionary and then post a photo of that page right?

And two pages... pray tell which part does it sound like I'm a shoe expert?

You do make yourself look like an ass sometimes. :s8:

By the way, how you judge other brands besides your beloved Ed et al says how snobbish you are.

You should learn to be more civil and less sarcastic and hostile. Might do you some good in real life.

I've seen the shoe trees in Muji. Frankly for the price, you'd be much better off getting a few people together and buying trees from Bexley. Once you buy at least 5 pairs of trees in a single order, they become pretty cheap.

I have 2 pairs of Bexley trees and for the price, they're pretty damn good.

Also on a side note regarding previous posts, I have to say, IMHO, $500+ for glued sole shoes sounds ridonkulous. :-/ Especially when Herring shoes frequently has sales and you can snag some nice shoes there for about $250 (incl shipping).

Shoe trees - I've seen spring loaded, full bodied wood trees at the shoe repair shops in Vivo and Plaza Singapure. Both also sell at about $60/pair if I remember right. I've also seen some less full versions in Muji for $45/pair. As mentioned above, if you can get friends together to order at least 5 pairs, buying online from Bexley is a great option.

Cream/Wax/Conditioner - I get creams from shoe repair shops. The MasterFix chain should have Collonil cream which is good. Dasco is a good brand overseas, have seen this in Pedro shops, but I haven't tried it myself. For wax, you can get Kiwi which is available anywhere.

I get my Saphir stuff from chelseashoerepair on ebay. Good prices and reasonable shipping. Edetal also has Saphir, but I'm not sure how much he charges.

Santoni.

Only one place offers "bespoke" (I stress the quotation marks here because I disagree with this claim) shoes for less than SGD$1,000, that being Diamond Walker. The rest - Santoni, Edetal (debated extensively here), G&G (which comes down for trunk shows at Kevin Seah), and I dunno about Church's in Singapore - would all go for above that marker. For some of these brands, a couple or more times above.

Pierre Corthay at Mal Maison does bespoke too if i'm not wrong.

What do you guys think of Design and Comfort (D&G) leather shoes?

It sure is not high end but do you think the design is pretty good, decent enough or old fashion or simply crap or?
