So far so good with Xperia Z, the only thing I dont like is the stupid photo orientation. Looks okay on phone but post to like facebook or twitter or tumblr, photos which is supposed to be portrait orientation will be "auto corrected"

It's an issue that also plagues other Xperia models, and other Android phones like Samsung and Motorola. Haven't seen a proper solution, except to crop the image first before uploading. Maybe it's an Android bug.

Guys, if you have update your phone to the latest firmware .434, you should not be facing such issue anymore.

I just tried uploading the protrait photo taken from the phone camera to my Facebook and it is still in portrait mode. =:p

Has any of you guys tried to 'mirror' your phone to your TV?

How to do it?

At the Sony Demo photoshoot class, I saw their connect a Netgear square thingy to their TV. Then used my Z to search for a network and I clicked onto the name of that Netgear product. I didnt even need to connect to their wifi there, it was instant connection after I clicked on the Netgear product name. Kinda amazing.

But I asked 2 Sony staff what was the name of the product, whats the model, where to buy...... Both of them answered me "I dont know" at the same time. Guess I asked the wrong persons.

Anyways,

Can our phone be directly connected to our TV to mirror itself on our TV screen?

Like done via USB port > OTG cable > USB to HDMI cable

or is there a micro USB to HDMI cable, which allows us to do the 'mirroring'

I wanna try if I can play my games or surf internetz or watch youtube from my Z on my TV

Thanks

I posted a portrait photo to tumblr and it end up in landscape orientation. I guess the firmware didnt really solve the issue totally, rather the fix was for facebook.

Just for your info, the NetGear adapter is PTV3000 and I have check with NetGear Singapore that they will only bring in this adapter in May.

You can buy it online around 100 plus if you want.

can't see much from ur pic cuz of the bumper.

Actually the bumper shows it more. Cause the bumper is suppose to cover the sides and corner but for some reason its not covering the corner. Will try to upload another picture without the bumper tomorrow

thats too much to spend on a gadget simply to mirror your image from phone to tv.

phone aldy expensive. then SP expensive, then casing and bumpers...

sigh...

u hv any idea if such a cable will do the job?

I found a thread selling it:

MHL Micro USB to HDMI Adapter (2m) - S$17

Im not sure if it will work like the previous mini HDMI to HDMI cable, like what Sony used to give with their previous phones

Yes. If you do not mind the hassle of cables then just get the MHL cable meant for S2 from SLS and you can connect your phone to your tv.

NFC can also be used to mirror video content on your TV. Go to Settings > Xperia > Mirroring and have the phone search for the suitably NFC-enabled device. Unfortunately, so far it only works with the Sony Bravia TV with NFC that the company demoed at CES. For any other device you need to use the Settings > Throw feature. It uses the widely supported DLNA tech and your Wi-Fi connection to push video and music to your TV or speakers.

I'm using a mhl cable meant for s2. Cable funky red colour. Will work. Just make sure it's a 5pin mhl cable and not 11pin.

Go online find, damn cheap. Got mine for $6.

Yes. I also bought the red colour cable which you are using.

You can also stream your photo or video via DLNA by connecting your internet tv and phone to the home network then you can access your phone contents via your internet tv.

Those who want to view video while surfing the internet on your browser etc, you can download the Video Mall for Small App in the Google PlayStore.

It is better than the multi windows in Samsung as you can select the list of videos in your phone from the Small App window :

samsung's one is better because i can watch fullscreen halfway and switch to small window if i need to read whatsapp or whatever

and switch back to fullscreen when i'm done

altho this smallapp allows us to select the list of videos, the controls cannot be hidden and takes up too much screen estate

other apps like MoboPlayer also have Samsung's function of small video
however i am inclined to use the default sony player because it uses the bravia engine

sad
