Don't bother. There will be a lot of supply of the HP laptop. Might be more worth it if you re-sell the Surface Pro or Alienware.

Thks for the advice. The 20 bucks difference per month is quite significant I feel. Quite in a dilemma now between selling and using this re-contract laptop and if I should choose the HP or the Alienware :s13:

looks pretty much the same to me :s13:

Are they both Full HD?

Just for discussion sake since this 2 laptop are more preferred as compared to MacBook pro and surface.

I understand from the CSO that this top up will cease upon the next re-contract, meaning at the 21st month rather than 24th months. So the cost of HP vs Alienware is 21 x 35 = $735 vs $1,155 (provided of course you re-contract at 21st month and not later). There is a cost difference of at least $420 between them. I am more inclined towards HP as of now and the below are my considerations:

In terms of hardware, Alienware pwns the HP but downside the weight is very heavy and not mobile. Alienware is also more of a premium series so not everyone will be prepare to pay this premium price thus the resale value may not be so high and I am not sure if the market will be flooded with this alienware after this promo. Waiting time is also longer by 3 weeks plus (HP is 26 June while Alienware is 22 July). Alienware got a free mouse as well.

The HP has touchscreen but lousier graphic card and is definitely more mobile. I saw the HP Envy 15 touchsmart going for $1599 from HP brochure although singtel brochure mention it is at $1499. It is also a more mainstream laptop so I suppose it should be easier to sell in the computer garage.

Pls share your views please, such as if you are using, which laptop will you get and if you are selling it, which one also :)

Take for eg the current 3rd gen i7 m14x with the 750GB HDD, it is selling at $1999 (usual $2299).

New! Alienware M14x Gaming Laptop Details | Dell Singapore

I think this will be how much the SingTel M14x is really worth only. What if the new 4th gen i7 range of M14x drops when Dell officially annouce it to say $1899? Then the market value for this alienware will plunge significantly.

Don't take the risk if you are looking to sell it :s13:

Your calculation there is fantastic bro :D New insights!

If you are looking to cover the "cost" of either laptop by selling them, by all means you can do it. But if you are looking to profit beyond the full cost of "$840 HP" or "$1320 Alienware", I feel both are risky, but alienware may have slight edge in terms of reselling.

Well if its for your own use, then you have mentioned, HP is mobile and sleek, Alienware is a beast and also a beastly size. For me its the former as I don't game, though I don't like HP :s13:

Personally I think we won't see a flood of HP after this show because wise dudes know effectively they are paying for the notebook and history points to the fact that nobody can really profit from it, it will just lead to pricewar and every seller suffer.

SingTel promotions not like M1 at all. No matter how you calculate, you will end up paying for the notebook, which is listed very clearly in this show as top up $35/$55 for the premium. M1 does it so well that it used to be at $79, you get a 100m + mobile line worth $36/mth + home line + notebook, that was seriously uh, how m1 earn but rejoice to end users

So if you want to use, by all means sign for it, but if you want to sell it, don't risk your future cash.

My dad been looking at this instead

this is only applicable to MioHome 100m, which although bundle is going for $35/mth, but the extra $20 to the crap MioHome plan with reduced speed at $69.90 effectively make this bundle $55/mth.

Well done SingTel, we ain't stupid to fall for it :s13:

I got sorta hoaxed into upgrading my mio plan into a fibre bundle plan last Sept, when there wasn't much promos around, so I'm paying $69.90 for just the 100mbps fibre, mio tv & home line (i dun have any free mobile broadband)

Now I'm looking for a laptop and coincidentally, the HP laptop is 1 of my choices, and paying additional $35/mth for 2 years is very wu hua. Sadly I can't recontract cos my plan is barely 9 mths.

Any ppl here has similar case as me and managed to upgrade/recontract? I intend to call and complain tmr and try my luck

Your previous bundle is the same as what Singtel is offering now except the free mobile broadband, which isn't alot since it's only 1gb free data (subsequent usage chargable at $5.35 per gb, capped at $94)

You'll almost definitely have to pay a penalty now if you wanna upgrade, best bet is to wait another 1 year and upgrade the moment you hit 21 months.

Can we sign 2 different Fiber plan ISP, example Singtel n Starhub under the same unit? Means any possibility to connect 2 fiber to 1 ONT?

thks for sharing your opinion bro :)

I kinda agree with you that it is hard to "profit' from the laptop sale, that y my consideration is heavily skewed towards a case where if I cannot get a good resale price for the laptop, which one would I want to use instead and how much to pay for it. Its really our future money like you pointed out. I likely checked out the HP laptop touchsmart 15 in the show (if they have) to see if it is ok :)

Just call sales team, recontract from ADSL to Fibre.
Quoted $44.90/month for 150mbps and $49.90/month for 200mbps.
I think 150mbps is good for me even though I do some streaming.:)
Still thinking whether to top up for the notebook.:)

why don't share? then collect $$ from them to offset some of your fibre cost.

Actually I would like to retain my hubber status , at the same time sign up for mio home, so that I can get annual handset upgrade from both ISP. If the OTP cannot support 2 different ISP line, think I got to recontract my Starhub cable broadband plan, while sign on Singtel fiber. If possible, I prefer to opt for both fiber cos cable is not cheap anyway..
That's y need to clarify with the bros here
