AMD FM2+ Socket For Kaveri APU Is Backward Compatible With Trinity and Richland

This will require new board. But the board itself can support older CPUs.... hmmm... interesting.

Wonder how it will perform.

If it can hit 5GHz and 15-20% faster than Richland on IPC it will be great.

I'm more attracted to AMD's strategy of socket compatibility than the overclocking headroom since my machines are generally built for work only.

Although socket compatibility means nothing if board makers don't wish to release the BIOS or UEFI firmware updates to support the newer processors.

I just spoke up for users like you to the distro and AMD SG, really hope they are going to do something more for the SOHO people.

I also use an APU rig in my office and 2 more at home so I do walk the talk and can understand your concerns. For Richland, most mobo makers have already released their compatible BIOS in time for the chip's release so no worry there.
