any one can help answer? sign up fiber from starhub as still under contract they say must buy the huawei modem+router @ 80+ as it is a modem and not just a router.

but is that modem necessary? as i already have a cisco router and i will prefer to use my own rather then buying a new 1?

are you on VoIP? If no, opt for direct ont and tell them to screw off. :)

If direct ONT, any router should work, including the dlink router that starhub supply.

i got SH to enable the direct link in Apr13 abt 1 week getting the fibre.

According to SH, after we get them to have a direct connection to the ONT, the DLINK router that they had provided can no longer work.

I tried and for my situation. Does not work.

I did a firmware update as advise from the ASUS RT-N56 thread and got it working for only 1 day. Now, everything goes down again.

Is the below settings compulsory for the ASUS 56 router to get it working ?

Internet: VID 1071 PRIO 1
IPTV (LAN 4): VID 1099 PRIO 1
VoIP (LAN 3): VID 1095 PRIO 1
Authentication: disable
VPN Server: <left blank>
Host Name: S/N of RG. found on sticker on RG
MAC Address: MTA MAC of RG. found on sticker on RG. Device MAC did not work

After the firmware update, I cannot find this advance setting in the WAN tab anymore...

@Clock

I suggest you do a factory restore of the router and reconfigure everything.

1.Unplug your USB tethering, leaving only a LAN cable connected to one of the N56 router's LAN port.

2.Login to the router from web-browser and perform Factory Restore, wait patiently for the whole process to complete.

3.After the router re-booted, login as default user "admin" and password "admin" at http://192.168.1.1.

4.The Quick Setup Wizard should start. If not, click on the Quick Internet Setup button on the Top-Left column and follow thru' the wizard until completion.

5. Connect a LAN cable from the WAN port of N56 to LAN Port #1 of the ONT.

6. Power OFF & ON BOTH ONT & N56. Should be able to surf internet now....

My Starhub Maxinfinity Elite Setup

Hi HWZ Friends, just like to share with you my experience of new setup of Starhub Maxinfinity Elite.

I upgraded to fibre broadbane from cable about one and half years ago. Starhub gave me Huawei's ONT and RG. My house is 2 storey condo penthouse. I put Huawei HG256s in my study room in down floor, which could not have wifi signal in my upper floor master bedroom. The setup was: TP>ONT (power cabinet beside door entrance)>>>Huawei RG (down floor study room)>Clients.

Last Tuesday Starhub Hub Troopers came down to re-setup for me as:
(TP>ONT>RG (power cabinet beside door entrance))>>>>Own Router Asus RT-AC66U (Study Room down floor) / Own Router Linksys E3000 (Master Bedroom upper floor).

Now the entire house has perfet wifi coverage: living room / Kitchen by Huawei HG256s; Down Floor Study Room / 2nd Bedroom / 3rd Bedroom / Upper Floor Study Room by Asus RT-AC66U (2.4GHz or 5GHz); Upper Floor Master Bedroom by Linksys E3000 (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Anyone has more question can PM me for more details.

Wireless is crap but wired connection is alright, currently reusing this on another ISP.

If anyone is throwing it away do "throw" it to me. :s13:

Fully agree with you. This is why my new setup put it in power cabinet and use wire to connect to my own routers in study room and master bedroom. Now my own routers are functioning as wireless router.

I opened up the RG before and there is only a single wire acting as antenna, no wonder the signal is lossy lousy. The 2 sma connectors onboard are wasted (not in use) which can be use and connect to external antenna.
