Yea, from Amazon website, there is currently a pre-order and it will be available on 11 Aug 13 for the price of USD 149 for the 16gb version.

They dun do international shipment for this product, so probably have to go through a freight forwarder like cgw. Cannot enjoy the current Amazon offer of free shipping to Singapore too..

Where is this US$99 Memo Pad HD 7 in Amazon? If you search for "Memo pad hd 7" in Amazon, some of those results are the older Memo pad 172V. I know, Asus should really improve their naming convention.

I saw this ofer too in my feedly feed but the post disappeared after that so i think the offer is already over

What a bummer... Read online that it costs only $99 USD on Amazon. Super cheap.

Yes, that was a really attractive offer. Right now, prob the best price is RM499 in KL

Had a chance to test one out over the last weekend, here's my short impression of it

- general usage is very smooth, practically lag free.
- Display is bright and sharp, no complaints at all
- Sound is loud, still can hear music despite the place being noisy
- RAM is only 1GB, but actual free RAM is ~600MB with bloatware. if clear bloatware can free up some more
- Built quality is top notch. doesn't feel cheap at all.
- Camera quality (rear cam) is decent. has good lighting.

Would you prefer this over the Acer A1? Looks like they both may be ard RM499 in KL.

Both use the same MTK cpu. Main difference is Asus has smaller but higher resol and brighter screen. Acer also has HDMI out (not that imp to me since i never use it)

I am leaning more towards the Asus bec a good screen is imp to me

It's alarming how uncompetitive local vendors have become. Stuff in Malaysia used to cost more than here but that seems to be reversing. Our retail scene is in for a slow death this way. Still appreciate vendors like Apple who can price their products almost at exchange rate price.

RM649, official price from ASUS Malaysia. Pfft.

I dont expect the 2013 Nexus7 to be cheap as well, knowing ASUS Malaysia does this.

Got to agree. I tried out the Acer again and i can't accept the screen quality. Just wondering now if the RM499 price for the Asus has some conditions or is a gimmick. Also a bit worried about this "cracked screen" issue that i have come across twice already in posts this morning

Also, from what one of the guys who bought it recently, the green color he bought had to top up another RM20. WTF

I assume it can, since the tablet has a micro HDMI port.

7" has no Micro HDMI. Got Miracast/DLNA support though.

Hmm, I've got both a 800x480 and a 1280x800 display, both on a 7" tablet.

Both are day and night apart.

In terms of sharpness, viewing angle (ok, that depends more on the display technology, like IPS, TFT etc), reproduction of colors..

if u hv a HD-ready TV, a FHD TV, there is a BIg difference.
If u r a ipad user, ipad2 and retina display ipad, there is also a BIG difference.

In short, the color will be more vivid, bright, sharp etc.
(esp when zoom in)

I agree that going from 480p to 720p is a world of difference. But to me, going from 720p to 1080p (like in the new Nexus 7) doesnt seem to make very much difference, even on my 24" monitor so i guess it will be even less so on a 7" screen
