Upgrading CPU or GPU

Hey guys, need your opinions, so I was thinking of upgrading my PC, specs are on the side >

I'll be focusing mainly on the CPU and GPU but I don't know which to upgrade first, most of the games I throw at it runs fine but there are some games that will stutter at times especially in MMOs.

If I'm upgrading my CPU, i'll be going with an i5-3470 and yes I'm not gonna upgrade to Haswell.

For GPU I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 760, but will I really see a big performance boost from my GTX 650 Ti Boost? And will my CPU bottleneck the card?

Kinda not sure, as your gtx650ti boost only 1gb.

Personally what my opinion will be the 650TI boost can keep first.

CPU get the i5-3470 ba. How you play games on celeron sia

Your CPU really lacking.
1GB VRam I think still can live ba. Besides, 650ti can hardly push past 1gb of vram if you on single 1080p.
i5 IB or Haswell will do.. but then you need get new mobo also lor. Costly. Can almost buy you a 760. But ya no point getting a 760 with celeron, and you play MMO's wor. More CPU intensive I guess.

I don't know why you will stutter though, even my old GPU can play WOW/GW2 no issue leh, just that at mid(wow) and low(gw2) settings. 650ti not say very chor leh, compare with 760 it's not really that far behind.

Go i5 4 cores. Then a few mths later upgrade gfx. At least a 2gb card.

Some games stutter becos of dev problem. Don't worry. But some games need 4 cores to play.

So... i5 3470 bah. Just get a b75 board.

TS specs say his board is already B75, so not a problem.

Agree with getting CPU first, then GPU upgrade later. Especially if the 9000s come out later this year as rumoured. That's bound to shake up the prices of existing cards.

Upgrade your cpu first...Next will suggest a SSD then follow by GPU.

I think his emphasis is on gaming. So it's CPU -> GPU -> SSD instead..

Can also if the MMO he's playing is GPU intensive.

But if the MMO isn't taxing his current GPU, TS can consider the diverting cash to an SSD which will improve the overall system speed.

Have, in mmo situation is between life or death.

One good example in diablo 3. Going thru a portal if the hdd isnt fast enough to load a map out, your character is actually standing in the open field of monsters. The next thing you know after you have load finish a map you are on the floor with your tombstone.

Interesting, more things learn today. This process is called rendering right? I know cpu and gpu impact on this but ssd itself also? Haha!

Yeap.. certain things of a game components are stored in the hdd itself. Maps, sounds and probably config files. Some game settings like save files are also stored.

Why i suggest SSD? Because his GTX560ti is still a good card. Get the cpu upgrade and maybe follow by a SSD for overall speed improvement. SSD dun just shut down and start up fast, it make the whole PC more responsive.

Of cos this is just my suggestion.

My lappy also dual core i5 leh....But since i changed the WD blue 500gb 5400rpm with a SSD...my lappy is on a fly....who say SSD only good for starting and shutting down only?


Opening of apps,web surfing, game loading is like 100x faster and my lappy runs cooler.
