Avoid the old memopad, it's garbage really

Slow, lack of RAM etc, severe viewing angle stability even when faced head on, stuttery browser, hampers the overall user experience quite a lot

Apparently, there are other options too, such as Valuebasket

They have it for the Singapore market ranging from SG$235 (Blu and white) to SG$301 (Pink, blue and grey)

Seems that the RRP is SG$339, which I hope won't be the final price in SG, that'd be really dumb and we'd be fleeced for distributor profits IMO

Personally, I wouldn't ming paying SG$235 if it's a walk in and self-purchase, but they're courier only, which presents a few problems (that and I'm impatient)

Anyways, you can get the 16GB HD7 for RM499 (SG$194), but that's all the way up in Subang SS15 (20km from KL vicinity), so it's not the most convenient (good if you're headed up there as part of or for a trip though, but you'd be completely daft to head up there specifically for the tablet IMO), but in general, the MSRP for the HD7 in Malaysia is RM549, which tallies to SG$213 at the moment, not including exchange interests

Between SG$213 and SG$235, the difference is SG$22, so it really just depends if you're very penny pinching or you prefer the convenience in this case

Alternatively, there's also ordering from Amazon. I'm uncertain of the shipping rates unfortunately, but the lowest I've seen is US$7.28 (Tiger Direct), so it'll start at a base of US$149.95/SG$191 (not inclusive of tax and shipping yet) + US$7.28/SG$9.30 standard (not expedited) shipping, tallied base minimum is SG$200.30 by a reputable seller like Tiger Direct, and I'm uncertain in terms of the warranty that our local ASUS has, so we might or might not run into issues here

$235 is a fair price but like u, I m also not keen on buying something without seeing it first. It may be best to wait n see what places like whymobile or mobilesquare will charge as they at least have a shop front

I think should follow shipping for nexus 7.

Basically, AMZ to CGW ( FOC ), just add another 15US to SG. Hence, 149+15 = US164 . No need to go to Truely Safe Malaysia

I don mind topping up for the new nexus 7. But if the memopad does the job, why not? I am jus Waiting for sg to release and wanna get the feel of it.

From the reviews, i dun think u will disappointed with the hd7. Personally, i have lost interest bec i just bgt the old nexus 7 which i m very happy with

Asus is taking forever to launch it locally.

Not sure why no one has mentioned this yet, but it could very well be launched at the COMEX 2013! It's from the 5th to the 8th of September 2013. If I were Asus, I would probably think the COMEX 2013 would be the best time to release such a product. And at a promotional price too

personally i used to think that micro sd slot is also very important till there was the otg cable which allows thumbdrive and hardisk to be used with ur device. Also with the addition of the online drives we can now save files to the "cloud" storage. But that requires data.

Hdmi out was also important but nowadays there are new technology such as the allsharecast or smt. that can do mirroring. Its very interesting.

Oh, i got it from a forummer here. No point buying a 1st gen new now that the 2nd gen is out. There are lots of sellers planning to upgrade and asking very reasonable prices

I agree on the msd slot (have never found need to use hdmi-out yet) so for all my other android tablets it is a must-have. This is my first android tablet without a msd slot but i will be using my other tablets for watching videos so the lack of a slot is not critical for me. Also, mine is 32gb so should be sufficient for my intended usage. To be honest, i was all set to get the hd7 but then i couldnt pass up on a good deal posted by a forummer

If you have other android tablets with mSD slots for media consumption, then the Nexus 7 makes sense, as it's more of a content consumption tablet

As for the mSD slot though, I'm an ex-Sony Mobile and Intel frontline 'customer education' staff, seen far too many units returned that have no mSD slots that have their device captured media wiped (that's really psychologically painful at times) from repair, be it a part replacement, mobo replacement or firmware wipe on the units with fixed memory

With regards to previous comment on USB OTG controllers though, it is true that those things bring about conveniences for some, but the case in point here is 'some'

The problem about USB OTG from mUSB ports is the extra moving parts on very fragile system ports. Good if the user is a careful one, but I've seen accidents happen that require a component swap as well

The ui seems smooth and the size is great for reading yet small enough to bring around.

I am wondering if Asus.sg would make a suprise announcement that this tab would be schedule for release in time for Comex-13..?
