Building a Mini ITX gaming RIG

Hey there,

I've been looking to a build and this will be my FIRST time building a rig. I've come up with a configuration and would like some advice to it because I'm fairly new to this and I've heard there are several considerations when building a Mini ITX.

Case: BitFenix Prodigy
MOBO:MSI-Z87 G45 GAMING
CPU: i7-4770 ( no overclocking)
GPU: Gainward GTX 770 or Palit GTX 770
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB ( 2 x 4GB ) DDR 3 1600MHZ
HDD1: Samsung 840 pro 128GB
HDD2: WD Caviar Black 1TB 3'5 inch 7200RPM
PSU: Silverstone SST-ST55F-W 550W 140mm depth full modular

This is the build I have come up with, there are server questions I have. Would BitFenix Prodigy have any problem catering to any of the parts I've listed above? I understand that the casing would not allow PSU above 150mm so I've gone with 140mm, other than that I'm not quite sure. Also, there is no WiFi on the MOBO. Do I have to purchase a wireless card for it? If so, which card should I take? Also is there any need for any fans, I have very little knowledge about cooling!

1st of all, bitfenix prodigy supports itx mb only... that msi z87 g45 gaming is an ATX mb, twice the size of it. Go research on the different brand's itx board. Unless you wait for SG to release prodigy M which houses a mATX board. Will be cheaper as well.

2nd, since you are not overclocking, drop the Z series and go for B series.

3rd, Can consider dropping ssd to plextor M5s/M5p 128gb to save costs.

Ahh I just found out my mobo doesn't work to. So I should go for the Z87I mobo since it has support for Mini ITX? And also, what do you mean by dropping the Z series??

Z series is for overclocking, B & H series are for normal usage... Since H series only got 2 more SATA and allows RAID as compared to B series, can consider getting B series ITX. Go download all pricelists and find those brands with B series ITX, usually indicated with 'i' after the model, eg. B85I or something.

And why do you need i7? If gaming and normal usage, get i5-4570 will do.

Wait for this weekend's update of pricelist... there are a few ITX dat just entered SG market. Hopefully, they will be reflected.

Might consider an matx board instead. Or wait for probably a few weeks time for more itx board coming in.

Do take note the heat issues for a very cramp chassis. Next is if upgradability is a concren in future then you might not wanna consider itx.

ACtually space is not an issue at all, I just fell in love with the BitFenix Prodigy casing. But looking at all the comments that has been given I am a little doubtful. How about the BitFenix Shinobi? Will that be an ideal build for ATX mobo and such without having the heat issues or anything?

You can consider other ITX/mATX cases as well here

I would say a matx build would be fine for you to have a balance between price and form factor.

There's also a matx version of the prodigy, dunno if SLS have them.

U want a gaming itx but u use a GTX770 long card might as well just get a matx.

People go itx cos want small small cute cute...

Else save more money get a Asus GTX670 directcuII mini.... cute small card then everything small small

Can consider Lian li A05FN. is an atx case. But consider quite small for its size.
