Hi, I need some advice regarding the use of iPhone 5 nano sim card onto iPad mini. I am currently using a iPhone 5 with the standard 3GB data package. I am considering to buy a iPad mini 2 LTE when it comes out. I am wondering if I am able to take out my iPhone 5 nano sim and insert into iPad mini if I wanna use internet outside. I dont intend to apply for dual sim haha.

Thx in advance for any advice and help :)

You are able to. No problem with that. Only thing is, it's very troublesome.

You cannot whatsapp and iMessage using iPad mini.. You also cannot receive incoming call.. Using it for Facebook, safari browser, etc that consume data only are working well...

BUT you can SMS, whatsapp and receive phone call via 3G\LTE Android tablet which usually comes with call and messaging function..

To remind those who do not know such restriction for iPad mini..

you can imessage using iPad mini

There is limitation to iMessage (even it is between apple iOS user)

No one can iMessage to your mobile phone number even you have your SIM card inserted into your iPad mini LTE..

For me, my whole family share one apple ID. If use apple ID for iMessage, whole family can read my iMessages..

That's not true. I am able to receive iMessages sent either to my mobile number or Apple ID. Similarly, I can choose to receive iMessages that are only sent to either my number/ID or both. And I can choose which ID I want ppl to see my message is sent from.

It just depends on which ID and number you register your iMessage to.

You are able to use your phone SIM in the iPad. The only function you won't be able to use is the call.other than that, data surfing works as per normal.

The only downside to this as some have mentioned is that it's a tedious process to alternate between the two. However if you don't mind, then not a problem.

You do have to remember though, that 3GB of data isn't really a lot especially if you're a heavy user. So if you're gonna share the sim with two devices, you might burn through the 3GB pretty quickly.

1st to TS are you having 2 lines or just that one line that you are using in your Ip5, if the later please beware as the other bros had said taking the sim card in and out is quite inconvenience unless you have the poking pin with you all the time.

2nd question is do you still need the phone functions (ie. call, sms, mms, messaging n chat) if so currently the info leaked for ipad mini 2, saying that its still does not allow phone functions, yes for certain (not ALL as per some bro said) can be gotten from cydia, provided you are willing to jailbreak (though a simple process but still need to decide as will void warranty unless before you send to warranty you flash back to original rom again).

3rdly, what is the function you are planning to use your future ipad mini 2 for? for watching online shows? for reading? or gaming? and the duration of such functions on the ipad mini 2 per day. Why i am asking is becos i think by now you will know that there is such a thing call hotspot from your ip5. if the duration of ur ipad mini 2 activities are not long, its still more advisable to just tether by hotspot.

If the ipad mini 2 actvities are long then it will not be possible as the battery drain on the ip5 will be too great unless you have a external battery handy.

lastly are you planning to sell or trade in your ip5 to get the ipad mini 2 and revert back to a older phone?

Hope this helps.

sorry to dig up an old thread since my search found this topic closest to what i hope to do...

situation: i have 2 lines M1 and ST. M1 is company's so LLST have to be 24x7... ST is personal but i have since diverted all my phone calls to my M1 line leaving SMS out in the cold.

Planning to do: buy an iPad Mini 2 with LTE without plan, go to ST to convert my current SIM to a nano SIM and stick it into the iPad Mini 2 LTE

Question: will i be able to receive regular SMS to my ST number on the iPad Mini 2 LTE? From earlier posts seems like can. will ST make any noise if i just wanna convert to a nano SIM?

ipad mini cannot receive regular SMS. earlier post talking about iMessage. its a iOS to iOS only. of cos, still have some apps which allow you to do sms. but doubt its free to use.

convert to nano why singtel make noise? they will charge you sim card fee, you dun make noise can liao.

if i'm you, I will cut the sim card myself. if spoil then go change nano.
