been using the schell (aka turtle oil) from Giant. 5w40 for around 6k.
dun find it good, trying castrol 5w30 tomolo. :)

changed to castrol syntec 5w30, the car feels alive again. :)
Not sure if its due to changing from w40 to w30 or its just that castrol is better (since more ex). Got mine at around US$50 for 6 quarts from amazon.
Local distributors selling S$16 per quart.

Not going to go back to schnell for sure.

Using castrol edge on an SUV , now use for 9,700km already (servicing due next week) still very smooth.

Also used for 20,000km on a conti for many years also no problem.

If conti, go for Castrol 0W30. Its euro spec, fully syn. $50usd for 6 quarts including shipping from amazon. You need hit $125usd for free shipping though.

Sg going for $16 per quart.

One quart on amazon is probably ard 8.5usd. Local selling it at 16sgd. U can do the math...:)

Maybe due to fresh oil too...but I dun recall feeling shiok after changing to schnell....but wat to expect from a cheap oil right...the comparison is not fair to begin with...

lol. what is so bad about Helix Ultra?

A great engine oil should scrub out the combustion carbon deposits and hold the contaminants in suspension. So, oils like Castrol that turn black much faster than Helix has better protection and shows it's doing its proper job.

If the oil don't turn black until after 5k km, just brownish, it means the oil detergent additive is not as good as other oil. It still works, just not as good.

My personal opinion on Helix. It is still a good oil, just not great.

I do not know the authencity of the tests carried out on these oils, but, there is a ranking of oil here. It could very well be commissioned by amsoil.

See if your favourite oil is listed here. And take it with a pinch of salt. Nothing really beats changing oil regularly with the right type of oil for your car.
