i noticed something. . i did a test starting today and on 4G service. .i was surprised that the battery life is better than when i was on 3G. Although the day has not ended yet but my conclusion of this may be the 3G service keep toggling around when it could not receive signals/data and caused battery to drain?

any comment and will this be one of the cause that drains the battery? i am still monitoring though.

How to restore SMS and contact only? :s11:

http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-restore-sms-text-messages-only-to-iphone-itunes-without-jailbreak/

How to Restore Only SMS Text Messages to iPhone with iTunes

1. Optional: If you still haven’t created a latest backup on iTunes, connect iPhone to computer to perform a sync.

2. Open Windows Explorer in Windows (or Finder in Mac) and navigate to the following folder:
Windows: %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Mac OS X: ~/Libary/Applications Support/MobileSync/Backup

3. There will be one or more than one sub-folders with random HEX characters as name, where each of them represents one backup stored by iTunes. By sorting by date or looking at the last modified date of the folders, note down the folder (origin folder) which is the latest backup created.
itunes-backup-folders.jpg

You can also select any previous backup which you want to restore SMS which was sent and received up to that point of time.

4. Connect a brand new iPhone to computer, or perform a full restore to original settings to wipe out everything on existing iPhone for clean start.

5. Select Set up as a new iPhone when prompted with option whether to restore from backup.

6. Allow iTunes to perform a sync with the new iPhone.

7. Open Windows Explorer in Windows (or Finder in Mac) and navigate to the following folder:
Windows: %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Mac OS X: ~/Libary/Applications Support/MobileSync/Backup

8. Again, sort by date and based on folder’s last modified date, identify the even newer folder (destination folder) which should have the most recent timestamps that store the newly created backup of the newly connected iPhone.
9. Delete all files inside “destination folder”.

10. Copy the following 5 files from “origin folder” to “destination folder”, overwriting and replacing the the existing files in the “destination folder”:

3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28.mddata (contains SMS.db database)

Info.plist
Manifest.mbdb
Manifest.mbdx

Status.plist

Heyo :)

Currently, heavy battery consumption of smartphones are mainly due to: 24/7 (exaggerating :p) of turning on LTE, rogue apps running in background, location services, email settings and last but not least, os incompatibility/bugs.

I will first talk about LTE for now. For those who have transited from 3G to LTE, most of us will feel the irony that despite why the increase in speed, the phone's battery percentage seems to/ apparently fall faster than before. Current generation of LTE chip (hardware) limitations and the availability of the LTE stations will force the phone to look for the best data signal continuously for you to surf. The toggling between 3G and LTE and vice versa plus the constant 'lookout' mode that your phone is in = drain battery, and this is especially so when you are in the MRT moving from point to point. For those who does not experience a real drop when surfing, do note that your static position is actually quite near a solid LTE source :) which is good for you !! And apparently in the latest version of iPhone, apple did something to the LTE chip (whether that helped or not remains debatable).

Next, location services and mail settings. Some of us (be it intentionally/ accidentally) will have location services permanently turned on. Facebook, maps and other apps will use data to constantly retrieve your current location but the question is, is there really a need for that? Mail syncing settings will affect your battery life as well, depending on how frequent your phone tries to contact the mail servers to push the emails to your phone. Unless you are waiting for an important email, there is really no reason to sync sync sing & sing.

Next point, iOS incompatibility/ bugs. This is something we, as consumers can only 'suck thumb' about until the next software update arrives. For iOS 7 running on the previous generations of iPhones, faster battery drainage might be inevitable as iOS 7 is optimised for the latest version of iPhone 5/5c/5s. Try using windows 7/8 on a computer generations ago (haha hope the idea is there :p).

Now, for the more important part- WAYS TO SAVE BATTERY. Do note that the below pointers are sort of consolidated from various sources including self experience and are not limited to:
1) Turning off g/2g/3g/LTE(wadever G) when you are in a poor network range. No point allowing your data to run and run with nothing constructive coming out from it in areas of poor data connections.
2) Turning off location services (unless you are lost :p).
3) Using 'Push' or 'Manual' in your mail settings instead of 'Fetch'.
4) Turning off background app refresh (General Setting>Background App Refresh).
5) Removing any rogue apps.
6) Not using dynamic wallpapers.
7) Adjusting the brightness used indoors.
8) Using Wifi ? Wifi does beat LTE but frequent syncing of apps, mails and location services will also take a toll on your battery.

The one which really works for me is actually turning off my data when I am not using my phone (unless I am waiting for an important email, etc).

* For apps and iOS incompatibility issues, we have to wait for updates from the developers and other than that, we still have to wait.
* Restart your phone and apply these changes.
* If all things fail, set up your phone as a new phone (data lost ):( and apply your settings back manually instead of directly restoring from backup as suggested by the forumers here.

Hope that the small small info here will be of a lil help to everyone. Feel free to add on!! Cheers.

That's what I've been telling ppl all along but many don't believe wor..:s13::s13::s13:

Good 4G signal is more power efficient than good 3G signal (because the radio can fire up, do its job, and power down much, much quicker), but bad 4G signal is just as bad as bad 3G, which is terrible.

Since the coverage of 4G is much better & wider in Singapore currently, it is likely that you will be getting better signal than 3G, thus battery life improves.

Not forgetting that Singapore's 3G network is really very congested and one can hardly able to get good signal, so even if your 4G signal is weak, it's back to same battery drainage pattern as 3G.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you are suppose to set mail setting to "Fetch" with timing or "Manually" instead of "Push"?

AFAIK, if set to "Push", it will remain active, thus drain battery, while "Fetch" only becomes active during the time cycle or when you "Manually" activates it.

Well for those who are facing battery issue problems, I don't know what is wrong but my battery life has been better after upgrading to iOS 7. Even without turning off Background Refresh, the battery life is still way better than when I'm using iOS 6.

I posted this under another thread, but let me re-post it here.

Saving battery tips:

1. Disable the parallax function (yeah your pretty icons and background moves, just a little)
Settings>General>Accessibility>Reduce motion>On

2. Disable background apps refresh
Settings>General>Background App Refresh>Off

3. Disable certain location based services (you don't want them anyway)
Settings>Privacy>>System Services>
Diagnostics & Usage>Off
Location-Based iAds>Off
Popular Near Me>Off
Setting TIme Zone>Off (unless u travel really a lot through time zones)
Traffic>Off

4. Disable airdrop (i think quite a number of people don't use this)
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the control centre, select Airdrop, select Off. This prevents the constant scanning for an airdrop source or target.

5. One last one, which is just switching to airplane mode whenever you are going through underground portions of the MRT, in the train. This stops the phone from scanning, prevents 3g/4g swapping. The phone actually works very very hard when doing that, especially when connection constantly varies between 0 and poor. I had once encountered this, while surfing (lavender - tiong bahru), 15% gone, and the page wasn't even loaded.

Switching to airplane mode now is just so easy. :) Try it.

Its entirely up to you if you wish to retain the above settings, whether you need them or you want them. But it does save considerable battery life when you stop all that auto scanning going on all the time.

Anyone else has this same problem? (Open in two separate taps to compare the images.)

When I switch between apps by clicking down home button twice, the app will not fully maximise (first image), it is not until after half a second later then the top and bottom edges snap to the screen. :s22:

Using 5S iOS 7.0.1.
