Starhub network coverage?

Hi guys,

I would like to get some comments about Starhub network coverage. I am going to sign a 2-year mobile plan, and considering between Singtel and Starhub.

I am quite a heavy mobile data user as I like to watch video on phone on the way to office. A quick comparison about the plan in Singtel and Starhub:

Looking at this, it is so obvious that with the same cost ($60 per month), Starhub is better in almost every way. The only advantage of Singtel is the speed up to 150Mbps for LTE, but it has no use since 15Mpbs is already more than enough to watch 720p video (1080p video will make my bill explode).

Therefore, before going for Starthub, I would like to ask if the signal of Starhub is as good as Singtel for the North region (Sembawang, Woodlands...) and on high floor (14+). I really don't want to sign a plan then realize I need to spend a half of hour to buffer and watch a 5-min video.

Why never consider M1?

M1

This is because M1 gives 3GB, same as Singtel and also up to 75Mbps where typical speed is also up to 40Mbps, same as Singtel's 150Mbps Mobile BB but cheaper for excess charges ($5.35 only compared to $10.70).

Starhub have not complete nation-wide 4G coverage while M1 is the first to do so. However, Singtel gives dual band coverage (But not really twice the speed as evidence of typical speed range)

Opps! Singtel's typical speed range from 3.4Mbps to 40Mbps for 4G category while M1 is from 10.4Mbps to 40.7 Mbps. So a 75Mbps LTE or 150Mbps LTE really make no difference in actual experience.

And Starhub's speed lagi worse:

For 4G LTE, it is 3.4Mbps to 12 Mbps, on par to worst Singtel's speed but no where max out even 3G speed.

So for the extra data, you don't get to use it as time flies. It is the catch.

If you need 5GB plan, you are better off just pay the excess charge of $10.70 from the $59 plan in M1 to become $70 than to pay for $98 plan. Not to mention air time M1 is the cheapest anyway.

14 floor is not that high also. Unless you are in more than 25 floors, than there might be issue with M1. (There is reported by user on 30+ floor HDB that kpkb M1 sucks, but I could not verify this atm but I can verify that on my 14 floor unit, ST many times cannot even call to my hand phone with lots of Caller Alert SMS when I put my HP next to a 6XXX XXXX home phone when my HP is not slient or switched off.)

maybe this is not impt to you, but to add on to m1's benefits, it is the only TRUE per second billing telco as StarHub has given up on that, FYI I'm on StarHub, hoping that m1 doesn't change their policy so that I can jump ship come November 2014.

Some suggestions for ts. Get a prepaid or sign 3 months without contract first to test it out

no matter what, network usages and performance differs from location to location. and they generally matures and become stable after awhile, maybe another year or two.
