Pls do not learn from Mr WILLIAM SNG (9818 8851), car plate 9191. Horrible experience makes me cant stand him anymore. 3rd lesson with him and he still ask me to drives around the carpark while he adjust his radio for like a 30mins(constantly switching around the channels for i dunno what reason?) and reply his msgs without guiding me pointers? Requested for his radio to be turned off as a beginner driver i could hear what he said sometimes becos he was speaking so softly and with the radio at volume 5, but instead was told that the radio would help me to relax? Cant do anything since he said that. He then continue to ask me to pull over and flip his theory book to the page where it says its impt to listen to road conditions!?! I am a beginner driver and of what use the traffic conditions would be to me? Furthermore he would tend to pull over whenever i had questions and tell me what he dont teach from the book but still he reads from the book anyway(he does this all the time) and alot non related stuffs like the passing rate of school, his wonderful coaching and stuffs which to me seems to be wasting time and totally not useful for driving which is a practical skill.
The boiling point was that he came late today and let his student alight before going to have his break and get some snacks but what's best was that was counted in my lesson time which he didnt bothered to payback and ended 5mins earlier instead. When i asked him why didnt he pay back? He just say dont be so calculative to ur instructor. Oh my, the 1st lesson i was late but he still ended on time which i blamed myself for that. I rebutted by telling him why not u dont be calculative and charge me 1.5hrs for 2hrs lessons? He was left dumbfounded.
Most importantly, during the 3 sessions i had with him, he keep blahing about school instructors being not good and how good he was as a former instructor and bbdc had to ask him over to teach the school students instead. 30+ years of experience he had but to me he didnt really coach really well with that amount of experience. Well he didnt even coach me how to adjust the mirrors or use them on the main road? (when i enquiry the use of the rear mirror and how should i position it, his reply was you dont need to care this u wont need to know yet, i was on the main road for god sake? How am i supposed to learn if u don't tell me how change to the correct lane using the mirror? He just checked for me and tell me to turn when it's safe -.-). I didnt know how the reverse gear was and work and was scolded becos i cant park inside the parallel parking when he asked me to drive back to yck mrt. I mean if u were being coached beforehand and if u cant do it being scolded is still acceptable. He scolded me becos i couldnt do it since he was in a hurry to drop me off and pick up another student. This is not very professional in my point of view, i paid for my full 2 hrs and wasnt being coached properly but still being shortchanged.
A note to learners: please try to find instructors which your friends have experiences with before and not source from forums as who knows it might be posted by himself.

If anyone is looking for a PDI at SSDC, would like to highlight a instructor by name of Mr Neo.

Pros:
1. Very attentive and responsible: 80--90% will give his full attention while you are driving (expect immediate e-brake when you screwed up, immediate wheel turning when you hindering traffic, etc). seldom uses handphone, toilet break only 5 mins at most
2. will do his best to guide you and correct mistakes.
3. will be on time and teaches right to the dot.
4. very safety orientated - you feel safe with him even when you screwed up (see point 1.)
5. very honest with money.

Cons:
1. expect some/quite a bit raised voices/serious scolding when you screwed up. sometimes can be so bad it makes you kanjiong. but because of this when I took test with the tester, I don't feel that stressed. on the contrary once I got out of the circuit, I felt more relaxed.

If you can stand the scoldings (average 2-3x/lessons), I think he's definitely a good instructor. He scolds because he believes that will make the message sinks in, though it can be quite harsh sometimes.

I passed on my first attempt, though I think my tester was a lenient one. Pm me if you want his contacts.

Hi again, just curious,
When does your instructor actually teach you parking? So far, I've learnt almost everything (u turn, slope) except for those in circuit like parking, s course and crank course, and I'm at my 9th lesson. In your opinion, do you think this is considered normal (assuming that I'm an average learner)?
Thanks IA

it's fine. cuz you can only learn parking in the circuit. assuming you are a pte student, u probably need to get use to doing all the usual things on the road before you enter the circuit.

you probably need 4-8 sessions in the circuit if you are average. i had 8 before i took the test, and i still screwed up quite a bit in the test.

hi people,

just wana ask whats the market rate for taking TP?

my instructor quote me 250, saying 200 is for the rent of the car and 50 is for the tester.

is that reasonable?

for car rental + insurance should be about 180 or so. (cos my current instructor and another instructor both said the same)
but 50 for the tester? im not too sure.
you have warm up with circuit on that day? or just normal lesson? must clarify with your instructor.

This person who wrote this is a sour ****! These review in hardware zone is to highlight to our singapore friends! That there is lots of dishonest PDI out there! Before u engage them! Everything also "okay okay"! Engage already! Add more cost! Say no slot for circuit! Make you kan chong that TP is near! But you have not built the confidence to pass. I suggest go to school better.. Any dispute or feedback at least you can get something back! Or make adjustment.

I was so panic about my TP at that time.. As i feel my circuit training is poor.. I only go 2 time.. Sometimes need to wait for other ppl to use the station.. Then i only have few mins to practice..

The worse part is i start to google my PDI again. And i saw 2 reviews about him! Bad reviews and its true! All was mention in this forum was what is happening to me. He always took toilet breaks! Buy food! Sleeping! Karaoking! Start charging me extra for learning parking at the carpark..sigh

So guys! All i can share is.. ppl in this forum cares! We share what we have exprience along the way.. And hope the new learners are aware of this issues from PDI!

I try to search in the forum about PDI TAY TIANG CHONG but i cant find any.. And his rank is high.. I assume there is no issue.. But when i had an argument with him.. 2days before my TP, i google him again.. I was shock to see there is an entry on Nov 2013.. And i engage him at the end of OCT 2012.. If only i got a chance to read some review about him.. I would look for others or engage a school instructor

also beware of PDI STEVEN ONG CHOON TEE 97602493

I learnt under him. I personally feel he overcharges a lot for driving test ( the lessons are fine - $52 for 2 hrs BUT the driving test is $280!!! 200 for rental 52 for warm up lesson and 28 for circuit) and he just left me without any debriefing after the test. No calls anything to ask about how i did. Is that the market rate, guys?

Good PDI

I'll recommend Mr Neo Lam Tong for those learning at BBDC (introduced to me by Ledrivinginstructors). He is a hardworking instructor who I feel is very professional when on the job. His lesson is structured with a clear learning objective for each lesson. Furthermore, he speaks good English! (heard that many instructors have problems communicating with their students, phew)

Those interested can drop me a PM, or just approach the guys at Le Driving! I believe they do other areas as well!
