On the topic of wearing jackets in Singapore.

Thought of doing a simple survey with the gentlemen here how many of you will be wearing a jacket/suit for your CNY visiting?

To start things off - my answer is "No"

FYI, I actually do find merit in wearing jacket for CNY visiting. It is handy for keeping the ang baos that u give/receive.

No, because it serves no purpose and nobody cares.

End of the day it boils down to Singapore's weather. I really enjoyed wearing the whole tweed get up when I was in Tokyo/

I'll be wearing my jackets as usual for sure.

Since I hardly wear one in office along with ties.:s13:

Last evening, I finally found time to go Chinatown collect my new odd pants and chinos from my regular pantsmaker.

I saw a huge pile of other customers orders. All are pants, folded and packed into plastic bag, arranged in order no. The other customers are elderly gentlemen, just walk in take their pants make payment and walk away. Seems like I am the only one bothering to try on the pants and take photos to see how they hang from rear.

Or is it they are old customers, they trust the tailor to know their measurements and preference. This time is my 8th pair I made with them. Their default house cut have become my preference, slightly loose fitting for comfort.

Yes, will be wearing a light blue chambray suit. Thinking of wearing my trilby fur-felt hat too. :D

To me, wearing suit is about appreciation the craft and art involved, don't have to mind what people think.

I'm a student about to enter corporate world. Any particular tailors to recommend me?

My past few purchases were from Michael Chain, i would rate overall not bad. Is he considered quite expensive for a student?

I could try a shirt with them. How are the charges like and how to make an appointment?

From emails with Crown last June when they visited,
"Our prices (all INCLUSIVE of postage & taxes) START at: (for BASIC ranges, and the MORE you buy, the CHEAPER it gets)
4 shirts – SGD 219 total
1 pant – SGD 99 total
1 suit – SGD 299 total
Clothes will reach you in approximately 4-6 weeks from the time of order.

Suit/pant – microfiber
Shirts – 60% cotton

Next step up:
Suits – 80% wool - $459
Pants - $139
4 shirts - $259"

Hi guys,
may I know your views on Crown's Tailor if being compared to Dylan or KBKS...? :o

I think Crown is in the group of budget tailors from BKK while Dylan and KBKS is in the group of high-end tailoring in SG. BKK has their tier of high end tailoring as well such as Narin Couture, so...

Hmmm.. the price seems pretty attractive... :o
any negative reviews from you guys...? :s22:

btw, since they'll only send back the clothings between 4 - 6 weeks time, I supposed it will be only for 1 fitting during this week?

& I have to go local tailor if there is a need for alteration after trying out?

I'm guessing no fitting at all. They ask you to bring your favourite or best fitted shirt and after 4-6 weeks you will get your end product.

I have given overseas tailors a try before due to the price difference especially with developing countries as workmanship is cheap. (You can get a shirt for below SGD35 in vietnam) But personally I stick to local tailors as communication, relationship with tailors and adjustments to get your ideal fit is not easy to get especially during short holiday trips. The great tailors in normal cases will not be able to make shirts in 3-4 days for you.

My vietnam shirt I had made came with darts I never requested and collar length, waist and button stance were wrong. Good thing is it was made within a day. Bad things was I was flying the next day. It was only $35 per shirt so if you aren't that picky it could be for you.
