L688 isn't inhouse, all longines movement are made by ETA. they may exclusively produce it for longines thats all.

Squale ... Italian for shark.
It's a historic diver watch with plenty of history.
Just Google square vintage and you'll see

Just brilliant build quality and quality control that makes you wonder about the excessive price of the mass premium brands needed to support the fancy boutiques and image marketing

More choice for the consumer is just great.

Glad to see cushion shaped watches making a comeback. Slightly bigger than the Tag Heuer Monaco.

Gnomon watches at Beach Road sells them. Last time I checked they are one of those like Steinhardt that make affordable mechanical watches in the $1k to $2k price range iirc. Using ETA movements I think, and such micro brands are the ones ppl are saying may not be able to survive when SWATCH fully stops the supply of their movements, as they are not big enough to start their own manufacture....dunno, worth reading up before buying.

Affordable is relative. Mechanical movements are relatively inexpensive by today's mass produced standards. There are other options like Miyota that will ensure that microbrands live on. Worth reading up on in-house movements too. Some are genuinely interesting, others sound more like marketing to me. But that really makes this hobby so interesting.

B&R is one of The brands id avoid. No history, no creativity, no major selling point and obscene price.

I'd agree with no history and obscene price, but I think they do have some nice designs and looking at the high used prices they must be doing something right

There are other brands out there in the converse situation... Thats equally a dilemma to me when buying

actually the tail rather short cos I ordered the S..just that the holes like not enough for me haha..so punch hole or change strap in this case?

My point being one can get to close the quality of the big brands at that price. Steinhardt can be got sub $1k I believe. Then again quality can be argued to be subjective, but that's just my personal view. Sweet spot for quality I feel is the $4k zone new or $2k zone used IMO.

It's not short and I prefer it not to be sticking out if given the choice.

But we are discussing if I should get a new strap or punch hole. Was advised to get the new strap because punching might cause the tail too be long. Took the pic to show maybe if I punch the tail will still be okay
