Thank you Bro ArleFK.

I've followed the youtube video and manage to switch off the QoS.

I managed to download the firmware update but after unzipping, there is a .trx file and my computer is unable to find a suitable program to open that file.

Turn off Qos

Update of firmware just google search the model number with firmware update

Try PC direct to ONT using CAT 5e/6 LAN cable.

Speedtest should only use MyRepublic's own speedtest server speedtest.myrepublic.com.sg as other servers might not have a 1Gb link and the results would be capped at the link's bandwidth.

Thank you Bro skn_16

I've been using speedtest.myrepublic.com.sg to test my connection speed all these while.

As suggested, I connected PC direct to ONT using cat6 LAN cable and did a speed test @ myrepublic website (550+mbps), and did another speed test with my PC connected to the Asus router (495+mbps), there was only a difference of +-40mbps.

Any comments?

You can probably follow skn_16's advice to test with direct connection from ONT to isolate if it is the ASUS AC56U router firmware version issue.

Thanks Bro xRenol,

Connected both ways as suggested and there's only a difference of only +-40mbps. Do have a look at my reply to Bro skn_16.

Need to login into your router. Inside there is a administration page to upgrade firmware, browse to the .trx file and the router will upgrade itself.

Also in the router page, there should be a QoS section, disable it. You don't need this for >100Mbps connection.

Hey guys,

haven't been lurking around this section for a long time. Going to be 2 years since i subbed MR and boy has it been fast :p

Just a quick check, since i am using TP-Link 1043 router, which would be better to get, the ASUS N56U or using my own moola for the TP link wr4900?

I don't have a single(i think) AC usable piece of hardware the house so i'll rule out AC for now.

Do let me know your opinions! thank you :p

What are your PC specifications?

You can follow SimonLam's advice to update your router firmware version. After update, try to perform a reset on your router.

IMHO, I think the difference is not that big between TP-WR1043ND and ASUS N56U.

If you can consider to get an AC router in case you have AC devices in the future. Currently more and more mobile devices are using 802.11ac protocol.

HI all,

Can anyone please share a speedtest result on any international server on the 1Gbps line? I understand it will never reach 1Gbps or even 500Mbps, but I still want to see the real life action before making decision.

Thank you.
