only good thing is the dual sim.

if only redmi note is using snapdragon proccessor, then i definitely get it. i need GPS badly. so note is a nono to me. will get lost in overseas again.

the thing for dual sim is for me to get a data for the phone to navigate around. but this mediatek really defeats my purpose :( for owning a dual-sim.

Get the Redmi 1S then, it has Snapdragon 400 quad processor and has dual sim too, fits your requirements.
Though it has not quite good battery life, reported by many from the MIUI forums, maybe due to the more heavy processing power by SD processors.

KK is supposedly optimized for devices with older hardware :)

Any idea is there is even 4.3 for the Redmi?

Redmi 1S runs on Android 4.3 as its processor(Snapdragon 400) supports it. MIUI V5 stable now only supports till Android 4.3, except for MIUI For Pad is being supported on Android KitKat.

Redmi 1 and Redmi Note runs on the relatively-old Android 4.2.2 as its MediaTek chip only supports up till 4.2.2 at its release date.
Now MediaTek has release support for KitKat on its chips used on 1 and Note, so now depending on Xiaomi whether they want to update the Redmi 1 and Note to KitKat.

Thanks a plenty for that explanation. Did not realise its the processor that is having this limitation on OS.

I guess even with rooting and customs ROMs .. There r no 4.3 on Redmi?

Yeah, most of the time phones with MediaTek chip comes with 4.2.2, but some recently released octa-core phones using MediaTek chip comes with 4.4, so something new might be coming real soon..

Not so sure on custom ROM for RedMi on 4.3, perhaps you can check on MIUI forums, I believe there are threads on custom ROMs for Redmi.
