ok non-watch question...

will be heading over to osaka in late november, and will also be popping by lake kawaguchi (and maybe nagoya along the way)....

bros here got recommendations on places to eat? =P

plenty in nagoya actually. I used to go to nagoya very frequently; even stayed there for a while before.

kawaguchiko wise nothing much to eat honestly - i didn't like this thin udon dish of theirs but perhaps I had eaten at the wrong place. but the scenery is fantastic, on clear days u see a massive mt fuji wherever u go. do visit the music box town/village and stay for the illumination; which means u need to hire a rental car since the retro bus ends something like 5pm.the ones in otaru cannot even compare. I'd recommend you stay at kawaguchiko for at least one night.

Nagoya wise they have tonnes of local specialties.
Sekai no yamachan is a franchise for chicken wings, or tebasaki.
Eel with rice, not your usual unagi don, but to be eaten in 3 or 4 ways, is a very special dish. pop by atsuta no horaiken to have a taste of this dish called hitsumabushi.
miso katsu is pork cutlet with miso sauce
miso nikomi is a kind of noodle dish with miso-based broth
and a lot more......

Other than nagoya castle you can visit atsuta shrine, which is supposedly the place where the 3 sacred treasures are held. A very nice place that I personally like to roam is osu; the biggest preowned HQ for Komehyo is here. Just go watch browsing is quite fun itself.

am looking at accommodation at lake kawaguchi area now too, but somehow seems like most/all of them are fully booked for the night i need to head there might put up at lake saiko instead....

still have a couple of months to go...but looking forward!

for the record my nick means long time no see in nagoya dialect (proper jap is hisashiburi)
very tasty in nagoya dialect is dera-uma. most commonly used term in nagoya - the food is delicious!!!

How did you get it on in the first place? It isn't screw in like the pam right? So basically there's no way you can access the springbar?

Yeah, that is actually a good question. I already had quite a bit of problem trying to change the strap in the first place. Thought that it was as easy as I thought to change strap for B&R watches, but I should have known...

I can only see the small tip of the spring bar which i have tried using many small tools to try and "spring in" so that i can move the tube and spring bar out from the groove. But I just cant get it to work...

Unless you can cut the tubes without hurting the strap.

That was one of my last resort ideas, to use a strong tool to cut the tube. But it just came across my mind that....if you cut the tube, won't it also cut the spring bar? Or rather, both has to be cut in order for it to be removed?

22 mm spring bars and straps are common. 22 mm tubes should be common (no Panerai so don't use tubes)

Leather vs steel straps

Which one is better for sg climate?

I wanna buy a dress watch. Better have leather or steel strap?

Aligator strap is good for sg climate?

Leather is inherently more dressy than steel. That's why you don't see real dress watches with metal bracelets.

Which is better? It all depends. Some people sweat a lot and others don't. If you're the type who starts to sweat the minute you come out of a cold shower, perhaps a watch with a metal bracelet would be more practical. If you're an average "sweater", leather straps are fine.

Although aligator is less porous than calf leather, it's a moot point as the part that touches your skin is calf leather anyway. The underside of an aligator strap is always paded with calf leather.

You can simply rinse and wash a watch with a metal bracelet. No special care needed. To wash a watch with a leather strap under a tap , you will need to remove the strap first. But again, it may be a moot point as you would not trust the waterproofing of a real dress watch to do that.

If you want to buy a true dress watch, then a metal bracelet is out of the question. It does not fall into the category of "dress watch".

But if you're after a watch that you can wear to most occasions, bar the most formal ones, one with a metal bracelet is perfectly acceptable.

if you use a cutting tool too near to the lug you may damage the watch. the safest (but probably heart pain due to cost of strap), is to cut through the middle of the strap and through the tube + springbar.

suggest you go to a watch technician like the uncle at K2 or some other watch shop you're familiar with as the B&R should be taken care of better!

From an engineering perspective, PAMs use tubes primarily for 2 reasons:

1. bare leather against the original screw in bars (historic base models etc like the 000, 111...) can make them unscrew. so a tube helps to solve the problem.

2. bare leather against the quick-change bars (1950s cases) will cause the bar to rotate against the mechanism and cause the narrower portion to wear out. so the tube helps to reduce this from happening.

So basically you want to sell at a higher than cost price? Well this is certainly new cause usually people sell at a lower than cost price.
