The Samsung MicroSDHC is being put to the test! How much torture can it withstand?

Samsung is revamping their whole SD card lineup at once by simplifying it into three product series: Standard, EVO and the PRO. Those who are familiar with Samsung's SSDs notice that the EVO and PRO brands are adopted from the 840 SSD series, which makes sense given Samsung's success in the SSD space and the brand they've been able to build with the 840 EVO and Pro.

Samsung's goal with the branding is to make it as easy as possible for the customer to select an SD card that fits their needs because oftentimes SD cards are marketed using the class system (like class 10), which may not tell much to an average SD card shopper. Electronics stores tend to have isles of SD cards available and differentiating in that space is extremely hard, so Samsung hopes that its simple branding will help to boost sales. Each brand also has a unique color (turquoise for Standard, orange for EVO and black for PRO) that aims to simplify branding even further and to allure customers.

As one would expect, the PRO is of course the fastest offering available and provides rather impressive transfers rate of up to 90MB/s. Most SD card use scenarios don't require that high throughputs but as 4K video is steadily making its way into the hands of consumers, the storage media has to evolve as well. Some DSLRs can also be picky with SD card performance and especially professionals like to have the fastest card available to make sure the SD card isn't bottlenecking the performance of the DSLR.

Now they want to target MicroSD market. Make sure they create different model of card for different type of device. Actually I think this MicroSD may be good for in car camera also as most camera works under direct sun during day time. Since the EVO and PRO can tolerate heat, so it would be a best choice. Previously used SANDisk 16GB on my in car camera ended up over heated card spoilt.

Got trolled. So 2 weeks later than can redeem. HWZ Admin did not inform samsung to prepare stock in advance when the lead time is 2 weeks. Very easy to calculate when the first batch will get 400 points.

I wonder if SANDisk will come out something similar like Samsung EVO and PRO MicroSD. Water Proof, Magnetic Proof and can stand high and low temperature.

i just posted before that sandisk comes with all the proofs same as samsung ones. actually all micro sd cards have the same proofs as its the norm.

But my SANDisk failed for temperature proof. Maybe due to it is a normal card?

Not bashing, but all the specs of the card seems a bit overkill for a sd card. not saying it's not good, but

Waterproof - Useful, but the sd card is probably in the phone anyway, anything happen, the phone also up lorry first before the card. and why would the sd card be in sea-water anyway.
Temperature proof - how many a time in your life will experience this kind of extreme degrees.
Magnetic proof - similar to temperature
Shock proof - similar to temperature
X-ray proof -may be useful?

all those mentioned spec, is good, but seems a bit unrealistic for real life usage? maybe so for some people, but that's just the minority.

that being said, I'm not bashing Samsung, I was once their promoter, and I'm using a GN3 and a Samsung SD card too.. and no I don't get discount.

if you can earn the points before the due date should not have any issue unless there is a limit of redemption 20% / 40% off selected Samsung Evo / Pro series microSDHC / microSDXC memory card

Hopefully there isnt any limit. Hope that it can be used for Standard, EVO and PRO microSD and any capacity. So alot of people can benefit. Personally I would wish that it is applicable to 64GB PRO.

Agreed. A 64GB EVO is a good prize. Wish Samsung had seen this is coming and stock up before hand.
