I wanted to sign up for MR after getting my flat in maybe 4 weeks time. But after reading these reviews about them, I am afraid to fall into the trap...
But their prices are much more enticing comparing to ST.. Currently a ST user but not every pleased with their service and their coverage..
Besides MR, any ISP you guys would recommend?
I just want to give my experience with MR so far, in order that voices from all perspectives are heard. Just like most people, before signing up I read up extensively on HWZ regarding MR, and like you, I was VERY apprehensive of their quality/service, eg. promise to install in a month's time, but after a few months still not done. You can see some earlier postings from me in this thread also. But I checked with some friends who have MR and they don't have much complain. So I decided to take the gamble.
On 22nd June, I signed up at Jurong Point outlet. Later, I got call saying my OpenNet checking date was 25th July and MR installation date was 31st July. FYI, I already have Starhub Maxinfinity broadband, so my fibre connection inside the house on port 1 of the TP is already activated. The OpenNet technician was supposed to come to activate the 2nd port for MR. To be kiasu, I went to the MR web site a few times to use the chat function to re-confirm the dates, every time they confirmed no change. And you know what, on those 2 dates, the activities did happen smoothly, and I'm now enjoying about 800+Mbps throughput consistently (using cable). I especially like the Teleport (VPN) service - now I'm streaming Netflix and Hulu Plus smoothly on my AppleTV, iPhone, and iPad
It's true it's not easy to get through their tel hotline, but I find that their chat service on their web page is not bad (although typically must wait a while before there's response from a service person). There was a day when I could not access Netflix. When I contacted them (thru phone), I was told the associated Teleport service was down, and they are fixing, and the service guy told me he would call me back once it's up. I was of course VERY skeptical about the calling back part, because as we know even the big players will say that but don't do it. I was thus very surprised when later in the day, he called me back to say service is up.
Am I super lucky in my MR experience? Maybe. But bear in mind that when service is delivered or when problems are resolved satisfactorily, people typically don't post to forum. It's only when you encounter unacceptable problems, or when a promise is broken (eg a certain installation date) that people will post (as they should, to warn others).
Lastly, I just want to re-iterate that I am not related to MR in any way, and my post may cause more people to sign up (given that MR is much cheaper than Viewquest) resulting in my own bandwidth being impacted. But like I said, I just want to give my side of the picture. Ultimately everyone makes his own decision. Maybe someone can post their experience with Viewquest (MR's main competitor) as well.
As they say, caveat emptor.
