Need some advice.

Does it make sense to buy a Daytona or anything in that price range with installments?

Esp with The Hour Glass offering a 40 month interest free plan.

I am asking because of depreciation , investment value etc..

Check out the curves......the peek-a-boo details.......so alluring and wishing you can see more of it......looks best from this angle don't u agree? I can stare at it the whole day and molest it non-stop. These things catch my interest without fail each and every single time.......

Do you have the ready cash on hand to pay in full? If you do and have other forms of investing the cash then yes it may make sense to buy in instalments and invest the rest.

Otherwise someone once said if you need instalments to pay for a watch you probably can't afford it.

40 months to pay for a watch is a darn bloody long time. Personally I rather pay everything in full and get it over with. A swift death beats prolonged pain.

Need some suggestions from bros and sis here ah. Looking to pick up a nice watch for mua birthday..max budget is around 10k. Less is of course better. Now unlike my previous purchases, i want something that can retain its value well over the years. Looking for a all purpose watch for casual, office, sports etc, i don't really like dress watches, so do not want to throw money for one.

Any suggestions? I have smallish wrist at 6.75"

Retain value means get back what you pay for? I have only one recommendation - and even this is not a guarantee - rolex.

someone mentioned a Sub 14060M not too long ago on here. that would set you back around $5-$6k depending on condition

However I think this will change a lot of things when it arrives: the new USD40K new Ceramic Pepsi in White Gold only:

Rolex history is that it is unlikely to produce rare metals versions in stainless steel, that makes the 16710 Pepsi stainless steel the only available ones. This is the previous generation with metal bezel not the current one with ceramic bezel.

Pepsi 16710 prices have been creeping up worldwide in anticipation of this launch, i think you can get for around $6k to $7k in SG

Better still and closer to your budget, a rare transition model of the 16710 - the famous 'stick eleven' dial and 3186 movement. This is the latest movement in the previous generation of GMT Masters and an anomaly on the dial. Typically it reads "GMT Master II" but this one reads "GMT Master ||".

special:

with this comes the latest 3186 movement - as found in the current watches on sale in stores today. it has the excellent parachrom blue hairspring and breguet overcoil blah blah...(best of rolex today)

very hard to find in SG, but on swx one was selling/sold for around $10k last year. And that was before the announcement of the Pepsi ceramic in white gold only.

I do have the cash to pay in full but the interest free is so tempting.

Was asking if it made financial sense to buy one on interest free installment, then perhaps sell after a year or two.

Hopefully if the watch appreciate.

Hmm guess Rolex is the best choice? While i do not expect to get back what i paid for it, i do hope to minimize my loss should i chose to sell it. For used, are box and papers very important?

Box and papers are important because buyers will always prefer full set. Makes it easier to resell. Unless you are confident you will not resell or that you are going to keep it for a very very very very long time. In any case boxes and papers, while not a 100% guarantee, are usually the first safety check against replicas.

I have serious doubts in the value of the watch you want to buy now appreciating in the 2 years after which you want to sell. Instalment plan or not, you'll still likely incur a loss from selling.

Only make sense if you have the means to grow that money in that 2 years instead of plonking all onto the watch or any other better use for it.

for rolex and increasingly so for branded watches you should be bringing the watch to the service centre to get it verified.

For Rolex it is almost standard practice, here and abroad. In SG the fee is $107 and usually buyer pays. Rolex inspects everything - movement and parts, crystal, bezel, bracelet and even the end links etc. and will advise you which part is not an original rolex part. the accompanying receipt will state model number and serial number. so its very assuring.

(once they advised me that no only my bezel was not original, but the spring too - a wire about 5mm long- so they are very thorough. )

for rolex resale the box and paper has a standard market price . Used watch dealers will quote you $200-400 depending on condition and completeness.

They will buy but adjust price. Private collectors pay as much as they want, sometimes "lucky numbers" fetch more. Then most will follow up with verification at the Rolex Service Centre.

Hey guys, just curious, I was told by a friend that nearly all Patek pieces appreciate in value after 5 years. I doubt so and would like an opinion. Thank you.
