You are buying at your own risk because you don't know the laws that protect you. Contact lenses are prescription only medical devices. you have to be prescribed for a particular brand/model of contact lens. you don't suka suka change from brand A to brand B to brand c. Or daily to monthly to biweekly.

Lenses are "safe" as long as they are imported by the company registered to import that particular brand under HSA. "safe" doesn't mean free from risks. it just means that there is a standard protocol for recall of products should there be a problem.

For lenses to be safe, they have to be prescribed for you. AND I MEAN FOR YOU ONLY. you don't go around borrowing contact lenses from friends, buying lenses online, reusing expired lenses or collecting them from the bin (or any sort of **** people do) when you run out just because they have the same power. Every brand/model fit differently on every eye. Your optometrist must assess the lens movement on your eye, follow you up after a period of lens adaptation. Thereafter, you can then safely say it is suitable for your eyes.

In order to be 100% safe, you yourself must be compliant in the lens cleaning and hand cleaning regime. the fit can be optimum for you but if you are not diligent in keeping your hands/lenses/case/solution clean you are still treading in the danger zone.

Comfortable does not mean its suitable. comfortable can also mean that the lenses are too tight.

You don't go blind because of an eyesore. Eye sore can be due to loads of issues.
-Can be due to improper cleaning (usually the case)
-Dirty lens case (people keep their lens cases for years when its supposed to be replaced monthly)
-contaminated solution (people dont replace solution in the case daily, keep solution bottles for years when they should discard it every month)
-Dirty hands
-Dirty individual - the list goes on and on and on including using saliva to re-wet lenses
-Improper fitting lenses (too tight/too lose)
-Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the covering over the white part of the eye due to the above reasons with/without infection)
-Cornea ulcer aka Keratitis (inflammation of the transparent tissue [you see through that and your contact lenses rests on it the whole frikin day blocking its oxygen and nutrient supply] over the black part of the eye due to the above reasons with/without infection)

The red one is the reason people go blind with contact lenses. you can get conjunctivitis then leading on to a keratitis which is why I highlighted both

I really appreciate your advice and putting much effort to raise awareness of how detrimental can contact lenses be if they are not properly taken care of.

yes. im having comfortable lenses that i bought from bangkok. but i do rinse them with solution and scrub them everytime i take them off. even before using them i rinse them again with solution. i would this is my daily routine.

would this be ideal enough?

Like I said comfort dont mean anything. Its a subjective measure of how tolerant you are to the lenses. Its does nt tell you if its suitable for your eyes at all.

The proper way to wash your lenses is to rub the lenses at least 30 seconds each side with solution. Rinse the lenses with solutions with jet force. Not drip the solution and rinse. Its squeezing the bottle hard so that the stream of solution is strong. Fill up your lens case with fresh solution daily. Rub and rinse and air dry your lens case daily. Replace your lens case monthly. Replace your solution bottles as recommended on the product description. Usually 2months-3 months. But I would recommend 1 month. If you haven't finished your solution by a month it would mean that your not rinsing as directed.

oh thanks for the advice.

as you said comfort level does not mean anything. so how do i know if the lens is suitable for me? do i have to consult a specialist regarding this?

btw i heard that if your lens has thin scratches it may cause some scars to the aqueous humor or pupil. is that true?

I have said many times. Just go for a contact lens fitting appointment with an optometrist. Not optician not eye doctor/specialist.

Soft lenses do not scratch. Hard contact lenses do scratch. Aqueous humour and pupil are both inside the eye. If you mean cornea. Yea. Damaged lenses can damage your cornea.

Anyone using Opti-Free Puremoist? Does it contain a free lens case?
I bought 1 bottle from the spectacle shop and there's no lens case included inside!

Hi guys, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on what to do since i am clueless. I recently went to two different optical shops, one to try on contact lens, another to make a pair of specs. Both shops prescribed the same power for my left eye. However, the right side is different...

Contact lens: -3.00, -0.75 x 120
Specs: -3.50,-0.25 x 150

I read earlier in the thread that prescription for contacts and glasses may be different. Was hoping to get some advice since 50 degree differences for eye power and astigmatism seems quite high...

-0.5D difference is within normal range. look up the research. human error. that's the problem you dont wanna doc hop you better not optom hop as well. :s22:

one more thing. YOU DONT TRY CONTACT LENSES. Proper procedures have to be done by your optometrist before it is PRESCRIBED to you. not you trying them out. its not clothing.

of cos buy it on your own risk.

these contact lenses are so far comfortable on regular basis.

not all brands in singapore are safe too.

i bought freshkon and i got eyesore the next day. it could have blinded me if i wore any longer wasnt it?

Generally speaking, contact lenses comes in diff 'spec' there is a reason why u need a pro to prescribe lenses.

Comfortable are subjective to every user, what suits u might not suit others. Getting infection from contact lenses, chances are its the user problem rather than the lenses.

astig lenses/toric lenses when first placed on the eye might be blur due to the fact that the lens is not centered in your eye. What optoms would usually recommend is for you to blink your eyes afew times before the lens will rotate and center in your eye.
If that does not work it could be because the lenses are dry thus causing the blur vision and thus eyedrops might help. (not eyemo or optrex). e.g. rewetting drops.
Make sure that it is stated that the drops are suitable for use with contact lens.

Astig lenses use dynamic balance (bottom of the lens are heavier). u find it blur because it is not positioned correctly as astig involved axis and cylinder on top of myopia power.

Lenses generally is floating on ur eye tear, if u have dry eye chances are u need to use lower water content lenses.

There is no such thing as center of ur eye as the optic zone are pretty small.

lenses contribute a huge part of infections as well. when people buy lenses over the counter without a prescription, they do not know if the lenses are suitable for their eye or not. just like improper sized shoes leading to blistering, ill fitted contact lenses also increases your risks of infection. its a combination of issues.

people who purchase lenses over the counter are usually the likely few who do not take care of the lenses, over wear their lenses and have improper cleaning solutions.

usually infections are caused by a myriad of contributing issues.

previously was contact lens user, using biofinity. but it was way too dry for me. also feel that the shop that i bought from i think not good service.

now i wan to buy contact lens again. so my qns...
where to do test? (only able to do in sg. not JB or others.)
where to buy?
best hydrating lens yet affordable? like biofinity kind of price one.

There are no such thing as best hydrating lenses:s22:
Biofinity is sihy lenses, based on ur case, chances are u are not suitable for sihy material, because sihy lenses are low in water content, maybe try hydrogel lenses, cheaper as well.

Well, in term of based curve and diameter, asian are quite general, 8.6/ 8.7. Though i believe having a tight fit base curve are better but patients might complain uncomfortable.

tight fitting lenses might give rise to oxygen and mechanical damage on the cornea as well. I still go for movement with lenses on follow up after hours of lens wear. better for the already minimal to none tear exchange in soft lenses.

for myself i have an unusually flat cornea of 8.3. none of the commercially available lenses work for me in terms of comfort while wearing and at the end of the day.

8.3? There are such BC in the market. Try cooper vision.

I need a minimum 8.9 for my cornea. I have hard lenses 9.2 though not very good. Haha. Tried all the options possible when I was a student in Sp. I now wear dailies only for sports and very short hours of driving leisurely. Super tight fit lenses. My eyes burn when I remove them. Even with 2 hours wear.

I'm the classic example why contact lenses should be prescribed. With long term wear of unsuitable lenses your sensation of stinging and pain will be diminished. The next time a more serious problem crops up you may nt be able to feel it
