Hi guys, I'm currently an Accountancy student in SP who is going to embark on the last sem of my poly. Up till now, my cgpa is 3.4 & would probably graduate with a gpa similar to that.

I'm pretty sure that this gpa would take me nowhere near the local unis so I have set my sights on overseas unis (Australia, UK, US) to continue with accountancy. Would like some advice on the following:

1) Which uni would i be able to enter given my current gpa?
2) Would my gpa get me any advance standings in the unis?
3) Budget is not rly an issue but what is an estimate for completing the degree at the unis suggested? (tuition/living expenses etc)
4) Would i be able to apply for uni using my current gpa (5 sems) or do i have to wait for the final sem's results to be released before doing so?
5) I'm actually looking to leave for the uni in March 2015 which means technically i haven't gotten my cert yet. Is this possible?
6) What's the difference between getting a degree with honors & one without it?

Am seriously considering Commerce at UniMelb but i'm definitely open to other options :s12::s12:

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated :)

1) Can try SMU ;)
2) All i can say is "You never try, you never know but make a wise choice" (Why i emphasize on this? My personal opinions, choose the course which is nearer to your house)
3) Check the course of your desired uni you applying to for modules exemptions
4) Most likely yes, but you have to submit your overall sem results once you received it
5) Not sure about this
6) Search degree with honors, My suggestion: Goes for those degree with honours

Am seriously considering Commerce at UniMelb but i'm definitely open to other options :s12::s12:

1) pretty much all OZ Uni.
UK Uni limited to Uni like Manchester, Nottingham to some they called it tier 3 Unis.
States - no top Uni. limited to Indiana Kelly, maybe UMN Carlson, UiUC not possible.

2) the better standing the uni, the least exemptions given. so if U want to grad fast go with the lowest teir Uni. want a brand name Uni then do the full thing.

In general American and canadian uni they don't transfer hell lot of credits avg around 1 term. U make it up by taking more classes or studying in summer. U could do that too for oz or nz uni but not common. I come across ppl doing 2 class or so.

4) budget - varies. U know UofMelb will get U 1yr adv standing. so 2yrs there how much? if U rich kid can donate a few Mil to get into top private Uni. so when U say no issue is what? $200K or $5Million?

2 yrs no honors is like aud$120k.
http://futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/fees/ug-intl/subject-fees

3) U can apply with your 5 semester results

4) leave in March next yr? LOL.. U check admission deadline? UK and States too late loh.. U should start your research on dateline and when Uni starts. not like U wanna go Uni open doors for u.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_term

U can only go OZ if u seek to leave march, iirc they need all your transcripts (not cert) to get the adv standing. cert not impt.

6) degree or honors. if U planning to go for Masters it matters. or if U wanna go public sector and want more $$ it matters. oh.. states no UK honors. its latin system.

7) my qns to u.. do u wanna work a little overseas b4 returning? do U seek internship opportunities. there are Uk uni providing such program.

Wow thanks for your input. Seems like UniMelb is a good choice considering the exemption, prestige, life there etc?
Yeap, seen all the old threads but they all seem to have a higher GPA hence some unis not rly applicable to me.
Also, do u have any idea if O Levels are considered in entry to overseas uni?

yes... only American and Canadian uni.

ie
Purdue
Uni of Indiana - no way to get direct admission to Kelly need transfer
Uni of Arizona (deadline Oct 1st 2014 to start school in Jan 2015)
Freshmen International | University of Arizona Admissions
Arizona State
Uni of Iowa
Iowa State
memorial uni of newfoundland (cheapest 4yrs there only cad$80K or aud$84k and admission is rolling)
Become an Undergraduate Student | Tuition & Fees

or U could do CC route
say go Columbia college spend like cad$25k a yr and transfer to renown Bschool such as UBC-Sauder which cost cnd$40K a yr or a total of cad$130K with a honors equivalent degree
http://www.columbiacollege.ca/

UBC maybe ulu to many but check below out, in fact u can apply directly but no guarantee. But watch the deadlines
http://bschool.nus.edu/AboutUs/Profile/HistoryMilestones/tabid/104/default.aspx

USA options ppl go foothills and Santa Monica then transfer to UC Irvine or USC.
2 yrs at USC is at usd$140k and 2 yrs cc usd$50k iirc
http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates2/costs.html

note if UofMelb 3yrs U are looking at ~aud$180-200k.
So if u see 3 yr oz vs 4 yr (for a apple 2 apple comparison) -1 yr saving or u get to work 1 yr the ROI on experience and earning power does it make sense to pay X more.

With regards to prestige that's subjective.

Decision Decision :)

HI there,

Are you looking at just accountancy? I do know of this one uni which i attended before. It is called Ngee Ann-adelaide Education Centre. It is a partnership between Ngee Ann Kongsi and The University of Adelaide(Group of 8 university in Australia and uni of Melbourne is also part of this group )

But if im not wrong, they do not have accountancy. They do have Bachelor of Commerce(general/Marketing/Management or International Business)
I will try to rmb and reply to your questions.

1)They said the entry requirement is 2.75.

2) Oh ya! they have! with your diploma, you are granted 50% exemptions. So long as from school of business, local polytechnic, then it is fine.

3) You will be studying in Singapore so i think that is not an issue:) They fly in their lecturer from Adelaide. You can complete your degree in 1 year!

4)They said you can apply using 5 sems result and not pay any application fee. They will ask for your graduating gpa to confirm that you can go into the program.

5) You can apply using your unofficial transcript and they will still do up your student contract(as long as you still meet the entry requirement. Means you can play for the May intake.Oh they have 3 intakes in a year:Jan May and September.

6) This depends on whether you are looking at UK and Aust uni. They have different ways of marketing their program. I know for Australia, honours means you will be doing thesis and research work. Why not consider doing masters? But it is up to you. hehe.

You will be getting the same cert as onshore students. They even have exchange programs either in Adelaide itself or with their partners uni. I may not be the best person to tell you more info. They do have program preview every alt Sat. . I wish you all the best!

OZ honors does not mean its only about a Thesis and research.
FYI there will be no Thesis without research.
ie
its a class in Research essay and 2 higher level classes (leve 4l). Masters program they are all level 9)
Honours in Accounting | Faculty of Business and Economics

Certainly in OZ or NZ, one can jump from bach to masters without doing honors yr, that is one have to stay in the OZ/NZ system. if U did extremely well and wish to go to say oxbridge or LSE one may have to read an additional yr to make up for the missing honors yr. My pal went from UWA to LSE and have to spend an extra yr.

in the case of US/Canada - top Uni would want students to complete the honors yrs before they consider you into the masters program.

it really depends on individual - Do U seek a paper to start work or do you aim for a paper from renown Uni to help open doors or a balance.

then again some ppl goes into the details when come to Uni selection.. such as looking deeply into the coursework.
