Hi folks, I have not been following the PC scene for years. My current 6-year old rig running Intel Core 2 Quad and GTX 560 has just died on me. Would appreciate any kind advice for the following parts.

I play RPG games like Skyrim occasionally. Not really into FPS so the graphics card don't have to be too high-end. I'm not an enthusiast so will not be overclocking or using dual graphics cards.

1. Processor + mobo (i5 or i7?)
2. Graphics card - budget around $300
3. SSD - please recommend a value-for-money option. Preferably 500Gb
4. Hard disk - thinking of WD Green 4Tb
5. Ram - Kingston value ram 8Gb x 2 (?)
6. Decent power supply
7. Nice casing (maybe mid tower) - budget less than $200
8. Win 8.1 OEM

I don't have a hard budget but would prefer to spend not more than $1500 for the above. Thanks.

My last system was assembled at PC Themes. Are they still recommended? Or are there new players nowadays?

i5 is enough for gaming , 8gb is enough.. and ram is upgradable anytime so you can just get 8 now if 8 really not enough then buy one more piece 8

casing is up to you to walk around and see which one you prefer
save money on processor ram casing and put more on the GPU.. If im not wrong i think with your 1.5k budget can get GTX 970

Thanks bro. I intend to spend only around $300 for the gfx card since I don't game regularly. Hence would like to know which is the best for that budget.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'm really out of touch.

- I'll go for 256Gb SSD since 512Gb doesn't seem worth it. Is Crucial better than Samsung EVO?
- Any reason why WD red is better than green? I don't intend to go for RAID.
- Can recommend a better gfx than 750ti? I don't mind paying slightly more than $300.

I believe Samsung have a better software support for their ssd, that's about it

Crucial mx100 256gb is roughly $155 and Samsung evo is around $20 more

Red is much better built compare to Green, more durable and Quiet compare to Green

If u can wait, gtx960 is coming, it should be below $400 if u going for brands like Zotac or Leadtek which use decent cooler but not so good in OC compare to Msi or Gigabyte. That card will be ur best bang for bucks. However since u dun game much I think a 270 might just works fine or u, pricing @ roughly $260

This is a good choice but if you cannot wait you can buy a second hand card? i saw some people are selling power color HD7970 for $250

Gaming only, no need to get 16gb ram la.

How come never consider GTX 760? The performance should be better than R9 270.

Keeping fingers crossed. Going to collect later. Don't think I will be able to check on the spot but I suppose I can always go back to them if anything wrong.

Kiasu abit since ram so cheap nowadays. GTX 760 is significantly more expensive than R9 270.
