Just passed my first TP practical test with 8 demerit points.
Damnnnnn shocked when the tester pass me the white sheet of paper!

Was expecting a fail since i heard the percentage of private drivers passing is rather low for their first time.
Praised by the tester for being a safe driver except the wide turning part.

TBH i think all the merits go to my PDI. He nag nag nag and naggggg nonstop every lesson to the extend i tear a few times (due to my own disappointment in myself). But actually all those naggings and tips turn out useful during the test as that's what the tester is looking out for in the test. Can feel that all he want is for his students to be a safe driver in future on the road.

Those interested can PM me for his details ba.
He's a PDI at Admiralty area(SSDC). 50bucks for first time registration and 32$/hr for off peak(mon~fri till 5pm). Not sure about the charges for peak hours/days tho.
Saw his statistic as 60% passing rate for students under him taking TP for the first time.

Hope this helps yea. :D

driving instructor

Hello! Anyone can recommend a manual driving instructor near admiralty? Best if is Yishun though.
Currently, I have a driving instructor who was introduced by Ledriving. I must said I am really disappointed. I may be slow or whatsoever. Contradicting it is, for the first three lessons he kept on saying that he found me good and that he wants to book circuit test for me soon and I seriously find that it was way too fast.. and now he had been demoralising me. I really doubt that he is teaching me right... I feel that something is missing..I really wanted to learn manual.. (today was my 9th lesson).

I really dislike when my instructor discourage me when i clearly told him that i really wanted to learn manual. He will come out with things like.. whether I'm learning manual because i want to travel overseas or so and started to reprimand me. I find manual rather interesting and that is why I wanted to learn.=.= Not to mention, he eat into my time too. If I didnt mention, he would not even return my time... I cant believe this. I have clearly told my perference to Ledriving. But being told that he is the good teacher... I really wonder. He doesnt seems to be interested in teaching manual.

He kept on pyschoing me to learn auto.... basic thing like adjusting the mirror, was not taught. I really doubt the fact that Ledriving didnt take any commission. If so, how it operate? For free? I wonder. Sometimes, it seems that school is better than private. But I would like to try one last time. The $50 fee is to prevent us for hopping, but if the instructor is that bad, I dont understand why I should pay that. Like eating my money.=.=

btw, I paid $60 for the reg fee. However, when my instructor pass me his "lesson-card", it wrote $50 reg fee will be collected. So where did the $10 go? Haha.

My driving instructor is Alan Tan.

He may be good in teaching Auto, MAY. He should be able to teach more patiently for Auto than on manual. He is nice lar... but he may not be the ideal teacher for manual. So still can go for him for Auto.

can understand how you feel but is he really teaching auto also ??? frm what I know, most private instructors do not have that kind of money to own both a manual and auto car, they would usually chose one of them to teach and fix to that. Sometimes, the instructor doesn't teach auto but just doesn't feel like teaching a slow student.

anyway, just like there are bad private instructors out there, there are also good private instructors and bad school instructors. sometimes it is really a draw of the luck.

I am from school, and during my first lesson the instructor already kept asking why I wanted to learn manual, saying there is no need for manual in Singapore, etc.. then my moving off still jerky and sometimes stall in 5th-6th lesson, they will say its already 6th lesson and still stalling, u cannot handle manual car! but sometimes you don't know why they really say that, maybe they are saying it for your own good

basically, what I am saying is, if you are a slow learner, people will try to psycho you to learn auto wherever you go, until you meet the "right" instructor. feel sch sometimes is worse for slower learner because they have to work shifts and stay in the car for the majority of the day, and their temper can become quite bad sometimes.. compared to private instructors who are more free to take a break in between

what you face in private = you will face in school . except sch ensures you don't miss out on anything that is supposed to be taught + you can complain easily

Haha. Yup. He teaches both. Yup, I understood where he is coming from but I clearly stated that I wanted to learn manual. If the instructor doesn't have the heart to teach, one should just stick to what he really want to teach. But I really wonder why... we are the one paying and yet we are the one received such treatments. That's really interesting... Felt super wasted to pay $60 adminstration fee and ended up with such instructor. I dont mind the instructor scold me when I did something wrong... but I really dislike people discourage me. Hais. So u took ur manual?

I still taking manual but want to switch to private after my FTT, not because of the discouragement but sch needs to book like 1-2 mth in advance (even though you can cancel 48 hrs in advance) and I find it very difficult due to my personal schedule

for ur instructor, there is a reason why he discourage you to learn manual since he wants to teach auto, but for sch instructors most of them stick to either manual or auto.. some instructors just think that some ppl are not cut out for manual, while some thinks that its just a matter of practice

Haha. I know.Just venting.=x I can understand why Auto is better = easier to teach + more $. he is a nice person but maybe not a preferred manual driving instructor. I had engaged a new driving instructor and hopefully it will be good. Haha.

All the best in ur FTT and also Good luck in ur manual driving too! Thanks for listening to my venting. Haha!

Recommending my PDI for Class 3A @ Admiralty

Hi all, just passed my TP today during the 10.15am slot.
Would recommend my instructor below for those who're looking for PDI:

PDI: Mr. David Puan
Contact number: 9712 0290
Auto Car - Class 3A
Language spoken: Chinese (He speaks simple English as well)

Lessons taken: 18 (with 7 circuit lessons)
Cost: $1443
- $50 for enrollment fee
- $32/hr for Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm
- $34/hr for weekdays after 5pm, weekends & PH
- $328 on TP day

Just sharing experience with my instructor. He's is a really Buddha person and he is not that kind of person that wouldn't cheat on your money by taking break and sleeping when you're driving.

He talks alot about Buddhism stuffs so if you're a christian or other religion do tell him. Although he will talk to you when you're driving, he's still very attentive and will step on the brake whenever he feels that you're not driving correctly or going to cause any danger to road user. But i feel comfortable with it because it helps me to multi-task.

He has good temper and won't scold me AT ALL! He will tell me patiently if I commit any mistakes. Don't hesitate to ask him questions too. He also constantly give me encouragement and tell me that I would definitely do well during my TP test.

He allows me to drive on the road immediately on my first lesson and also teaches me extra techniques like 3-point turn which is not required for our TP test. I remembered once when i ask him if i can go into circuit already after 5 lessons but he recommended me not to because he said circuit is expensive and he will teach me parking outside first so i won't waste time and money when i go into the circuit because in the circuit, you can only try each station once. In addition, he allows me to book my TP test after my first lesson with him so to reduce the waiting time.

This morning before my TP after my warm-up, he showed me to the room where people who passed their TP must watch the traffic police video and apply for my license because he was so confident that i can pass.

I feel that we all need this kind of instructor whom would encourage us instead of demoralize us. If you guys have any doubts please feel free to ask me questions :)

Sch will basically teach you everything that is going to be tested during the test and more.. when you sign up with school, they will give you a booklet which gives descriptions of every module that will be taught, and you can only move on after you passed one particular module (but you can clear multiple modules in one lesson depending on what they are)

you can probably ask to take a look at the booklet before signing up at the school to make a better decision but I think you cant take the book home unless you sign up under sch

iirc, you need to finish your FTT before booking for your TP, not so much about waiting time.

Definitely. But i guess not every instructor allows you to book TP on your first lesson with them even after you pass your FTT. So this is what i mean by reducing the waiting time.

Hi, was wondering if anyone know if you must book theory tests at driving schools? Possible to self-book or get pdi to book since the next available test date at cdc is just nice the week after my membership expire ==
