Hi all, am using my DNS-320 (older model) fir abt 2 years now, recently when I try to retrieve files via my desktop in the study room via (pc on wifi) while singtel fibre modem in living room. I can see the folders and files in the nas, but when i try to open like mp3 or pdf files, it couldnt open and it brings me to the sub folders, sometimes says not connected or something.(Previously i could access my NAS files this way)

Whats wrong? I got a small pc in the living room connected via lan cable to the modem, i can access the nas files but cant do it thru my study rm PC....

Is something wrong with the DNS-320

hi guys.

does the "connection error" problem with P2P application resolved? I have it whenever there are so many torrents in the list (more than 6 I think) and now even though 3 of them already completed, the P2P application still unable to show the torrent list with "connection error" message.

Look more like Windows credential issue on the desktop PC in study room. Try connecting it directly to NAS (bring NAS to the PC) to test. If using Windows 7 or 8, go to Credential Manager under Control Panel and delete entry.

Ditch the build-in P2P client and switch to Transmission instead.

Did anyone experience LAN port down problem with DNS-320L?
This happened to me few times. I had to unplug/plug the LAN cable on NAS few times before the connection restored. Just changed to new cable, hopefully can fix the problem.

Issue with harddrives

Hey guys i am having a real issue with my HDDS,i will start from the beginning

In the past i installed fun_plug along with transmission on Volume1.

Since i used xbmc on my ouya to stream the files from the 320L i noticed the torrents downloaded with transmission had a protection and were "owned" by transmission.
Thus xbmc couldn't write the subs on the file,i had to do it manually each time via my pc.
In order to resolve that issue, each time i downloaded a torrent i used WinScp to change the permission and set the owner of the files the root user, not transmission anymore.

Until i did something pretty stupid, changed the permission of the whole Volume 1 to root
As a result i couldn't log via ssh anymore to dlink the ffp files and everything regarding ffp and transmission were now owned by root.
Left it this way for a couple of months since i couldn't find a way to fix this issue.

Until today,i thought i would remove the second volume and reformat volume 1 so i could start over.(The 320L doesn't allow separate formats for each volume, does it together, that's why i used the previous method.)

All well, formatted the drive as usual and then i tried to write files on volume 1.....
I get the following message-"You need permission to perform that action"...

What did i do wrong? How do i fix this?

In case you decided to ditch your unit, can consider passing it to me. :D

In Linux, folder/file permission is very important so have to be very careful when playing around with chmod using root account.

The question now is, do you still need to "recover" whatever data on the 2nd drive? I assumed your current setup is RAID-1.

No,i don't use raid 1,i use the standard method.
All my useful stuff is in the second drive.
Could you explain what exactly happened to the 1st drive and i can't write on it?Forgot to mention that after having formated the 1st drive(powered off the unit) plugged back in the second drive i got a message in the web interface under the hdd section saying that a previously configured hdd has been plugged in.

Remove the 2nd drive first until you have sorted out the problem.

Logically speaking if you have reconfigure and format the 1st drive, everything should be back to normal. Why don't you backup the NAS configure first, reset to factory default and restore the configure. After which, redo the drive configuration, assuming it's the same as DNS-320, it should be the R-slot.

That solved it!Specifically i removed the 2nd drive, then factory reset then reformat 1st drive.
Read write worked as before and then added the second drive once again.
Time to re-install Fun plug and transmission,i will try to solve the torrent permission issue and i will let you know how it goes.

Thanks a million albertlee!

Actually all you have to do is to change the folder permission where the BT download is kept to full access. For example, I used folder called Downloads in Volume_1:

chmod 777 /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Downloads

Check with you guys... i noticed DLINK UK DNS-320L manual and feature mentioned about My Surveillance function but local DLINK DNS-320L do not have this function. Is it that the firmware and feature not updated?

Which firmware version are you running on? Seem like My Surveillance Center is a new feature in V1.03b04.

unfortunately this didn't work.Started Xbmc went into the subs addon to dl the necessary srt but no matter how many times i tried,it would not write the sub to the folder.Should i change it to root permission only?

In Linux, setting folder or file permission to 777 mean anyone can have full access to it. And by setting it to a folder mean any new sub-folder or file created under it will inherited the same permission. For existing file(s) or sub-folder(s) in that folder, you have to set it as well using the -R parameter.

BTW, what the heck is XMBC?

Xbmc is a media streamer solution that can be installed on multiple platforms,if you are a movie lover like myself, xbmc(now renamed to kodi) is an one way street.I have installed it on an ouya and is absolutely great!

By the way you were right Albertlee. It was my fault i hadn't properly shared the first volume after the format. In the nfs tab i didn't check the "write" tab when i was configuring it!

Hi guys,

Lately my media library can't refresh properly and keep getting stuck at 40%. I've tried changing the FW versions but doesn't work even with the latest.

Does anyone know the solution to my problem here? I would really appreciate your advice!

TIA!

Saw your PM regarding this problem. Unfortunately, I don't own this NAS model (my is DNS-320). Have you try redoing the UPnP AV Server by first deleting the shares setting and adding it back again. I assumed this is the same apps used in DNS-320L.
