what's the real difference between contract vs perm full time?

if i'm out looking for a new job, and got offered with contract on my asking salary instead of perm full time, what should my concern be?

depends on the contract.

If it is a contract for a project for example, then usually you won't want to work on those jobs because it is non renewable.

There are other types of contracts where you get entitled to things like variable bonus, AWS and annual leave as good as a perm job.

I have known of people who have been on contract with the same company for 5 years.

so let's say the entitlement for the contract is as gd as a perm, why is there a contract employment term?

what's the distinction for the employer between the 2?

Because sometimes, companies don't have headcount, for every 1 perm staff they hire, they need to justify (sometimes all the way up to CEO level) why they need to hire this 1 perm person.

I say contract in Singapore is very deceptive.

Because i have seen people get 3 year contract (with full perm benefits)

Or people who get 1 year contract, but with the same company and job scope for the past 5 years (with full perm benefits)

I have also seen people on permanent roles who got retrenched, or who did not "pass" probation

But since we are Singapore, we are "trained" to think that contract = bad, perm = good.

am i right to say that contract staffs are sort of regarded as expenses and does not contribute to staff headcount?

does MOM distinguish between contract vs perm?

Not really. Really depends from company to company.

Hiring of contract staff and hiring of perm staff is under 2 separate financial budgets.

I am not sure on MOM take on contract vs perm staff, but regardless of whether it is contract or perm, there is a minimum set of standards which applies to both via the employment act of Singapore.

Hi HH again,

Today I went for rd 2 interview with a company, the hiring manager wanted my word I would take up the job, so I verbally accepted it. They mentioned HR will contact me to negotiation on terms and salary.

As stated earlier I set my expected at 2.5-2.6. Then after thinking through, as a guy been through ns should command slightly more. And I have slight related work experience to count upon. Will it be okay to nego say at 2.7? Can I still ask for me at this stage?

Yo Headhunter,

My company announces bonus at the end of march, and it'll be credited by end april pay day. If i were to leave company by February or March, would i still be entitled to collect the bonus since i've worked the entire previous year.

Thanks

Yes it is fine to negotiate.

what course do you have to go through to be a head hunter?

CEI course by MOM

No you will not be entitled.

Depending on company, you will be faced with 2 scenarios

1) Tender after bonus has been paid to your bank account
2) Tender after bonus has been paid to your bank account, and you stay till the end of the month before tendering (some companies will take back your bonus unless you stay till end of the month)

In most cases, even if you are still employed by the company, but serving notice when the bonus is paid out, you will not be entitled to the variable bonus.

Hi HH,

normally how long can I drag out the offer given to me before the firm decides that it doesnt want to wait any longer?

the reason i ask is this is because i am almost finishing up the interviews with a better paying company, and should i receive an offer from the other one (which i was told to expect soon), i may want to hold it as long as i can until i can receive the feedback from this company.

thanks.

:eek::eek::eek:

so in my position, the 'back-up offer' cant work rah?

also, if offered, are there any more contingent checks to be conducted (references, background), or does it mean confirm can sign and start accordingly already?

Usually when they say they want to offer you, means just wait for HR, although sometimes the HR will do a reference check (which means another day wasted)

HR will call you to give a verbal offer - X amount then ask if you accept or not, then they will draft the contract (after you accept)

But some HR take very long to get back to you, so don't pin your hopes too high. (Sometimes as long as 2 weeks)

If you want to play punk (and get blacklisted by the company that offered you, or the HR that offered you, because HR managers do move to other companies) you can accept job A, then wait for job B to offer

Do note that by doing so you can effectively

1) Forget about joining company A ever again in your career
2) Forget about ever working under the manager that interviewed you, regardless of which company he is in.

HR positions mostly requires a diploma right ?

May I know what's the job scope of low entry HR admin ?
I was surprise that Achieve group called me up before for a heavy HR job scope even though i only have O levels.
Then another agent intro hr job which is to calculate timesheet but think that's just one of the many job scopes.

Ok, thanks again man! I couldn't wait for the counter offer to arrive and this company wants me to commit and say will contact me with offer this week. Lucky I am still able to negotiate cause after hearing from so many friends, they say I can definitely ask for slightly higher.

Depends on job scope

HR comprises of

Compensation and Benefits (Degree needed)
Payroll (Minimum Diploma but sometimes O levels depending on company)
Recruitment (Minimum Diploma)
Learning and Development (Degree needed)
HR Admin (O levels) - Timesheet calculation etc calls here.

Define Equities.

Equities is a product. You must also define the function

Operations? Middle Office? Front Office? Trader?
