I don't know about you guys, but for me, the iPad is still a must have. The iPad is better than my phone or MacBook Pro for tasks like news reading, reading comics and ebooks and light web-surfing. It just feels more natural to hold it in the hand, much like reading a newspaper.

Which is precisely why I personally thought this product may not find its place in today's context... Then again, that may just be me...

Seeing the 'new' Macbook, my MBA 11 suddenly sees a life of extension again....the lack of a standard USB port is quite dread, worse still one port only, think about the extras to bring along if travelling, and needy o access external devices, dvd drive etc... like said above, the macbook is so minimal in connectivity, the iPad is better, and with touchscreen.

It will be depending on what u do in vm but comparing ur old mbp w new mb, u sld see improvement as its a huge change from hdd to pcie ssd.

Core m may be slower than current cpu but still good compare to older gen.

2. This USB-C port, can be directly plug a lightning cable into it?
Or we gotta buy a USB-C to USB adapter? What if we wanna connect an iPad or iPhone on it?

2) no. Lighting cable. Need to get usb-c connector which has e required ports.

3) yes. Only for charging n attachment for connector,,

Its not most. Its all. U can not survive without a USB port. U die die need to use a thumb drive or portable hdd. Cloud drive is good for small document files. If u got huge files like movies or songs, u definitely need a portable hdd or thumb drive. Unless manufacturers produce one tht uses usb-c but tht will render it useless w other laptops or desktops.

There's still the MBA or MBP with MagSafe and sufficient ports though.

Yes agree.. Some users really need it for email and light doc editing only

My colleagues have already been using DropBox and Google Drive in their work. In my previous company in 2011, the whole company of about 25 staff had been on secured network drive for work. Bear in mind that both these companies are not For-Profit companies. Of course, there are people who are resistant to using cloud or network based storage because they have a choice.

FYI, I just uploaded a 500MB video to share with my colleagues for their viewing on Sat 14/3 via OneDrive.

Sometimes, the world does not revolve around me, I and myself. Just because I do not need MagSafe does not mean it does not need to exist in the past.


There are some things that would change:

1) Discrete GPU on Macbook Pro Retina will be missing with Intel's Iris Pro from Skylake being powerful enough

2) Thunderbolt 3 will be implemented once released, possibly with a mix of TB2 and TB3 on both nMBP and Mac Pro as the cables are not compatible (not sure if ports are backward compatible).

3) TB3 5K Apple Thunderbolt Display will be made and release next year.

4) Lightning is here to stay, for at least until iPhone 6s. With more powerful processors and bigger storage, they might need something that can push higher bandwidth. Remember the 30 pin cable for the original iPhone? It lasted 5 generations of iPhone (iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S).

5) More USB3.1 Gen2 in 2016 release of the nMBP. They might trim the HDMI port, MagSafe2 port. We might be down to 2x TB3, 2x USB3.1, 1x SDcard, audio out. USB3.1 will be for charging.
