Meizu rose from the ashes last year, proving a very capable competitor to China's up-and-coming Xiaomi brand with well thought-out MX4 and MX4 Pro midrange and flagship offerings. Later on, it unleashed another value-for-money blockbuster - the M1 Note - which offered a 1080p display, 13 MP camera and a large battery for around $200. This year, it has been up to good again, unleashing the M2 Note, again at a rock bottom price for what it's offering, and today it took the stage to announce its next flagship - the MX5.

Meizu MX5 is coming wit a full metal jacket this time, as speculated, in line with the times of premium handsets made of premium materials, and feature an upgraded processor, compared to the MX4 Pro, namely the Helio X10 Turbo chipset with eight Cortex-A53 cores at 2.2 GHz, and a PowerVR G6200 graphics processor. It is coupled with 3 GB of RAM, and the phone comes in 16, 32, or 64 GB of storage variants. The phone comes at just 7.6mm thin, and with 149 grams of weight, which is a pretty stellar achievement for a metal-clad 5.5-incher.

The screen has stayed a 5.5" 1080p AMOLED endeavor, which should bode well for the battery life out of the 3150 mAh battery. Meizu has equipped the phone with the so-called mCharge tech, a fast charging of sorts, which will be able to juice it up to 25% in ten minute's time only. Topping it off to 50% will require just twenty minutes more, as shown on the presentation. A 20 MP rear camera is on board, employing a Sony IMX220 sensor with dual-tone LED flash plus laser autofocus tech, while a 5 MP front-facing cam rounds up the pretty offering. The camera can record 4K video, and encodes in the modern h.265 format, taking less space, while preserving the same quality.

When it comes to software, the phone is running the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, and will also come papered over with the newest Flyme 4.5 Android overlay of Meizu, which has been given a visual overhaul with transparency, glass effects, themes, and more. The basic 16 GB version will go for 1800 yuan (about $290), and 1999 yuan (about $322) will get you the 32 GB one. The high-hitting 64 GB model will be going for a $387 equivalent, which reaffirms Meizu as a value-for-money operator. Any takers?

http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/07/meizu-mx5-gets-benchmarked-scores-53330-antutu.html

During the conference, Meizu talked a lot about the Meizu MX5, which was the main release of the day. The company has even showed off MX5’s AnTuTu benchmark results during the conference in order to showcase the power of MediaTek’s Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit SoC which powers this device. The Meizu MX5 scored 53,330 on AnTuTu, which is significantly more compared to its predecessor which managed to hit an average of 47.765 last year. We all know that benchmarks are not exactly the best way to determine how well the device will perform, but they do show how powerful the hardware is though.

Meizu is Apple lover, the design (form factor ) and the 1 home button says so.
since last year, they took the 3GS + 5C design language with the impressive benchmark, it did hit well

Or perhaps, desugn/form factor is just so limited.
they bring back the older design with some new features and BOOM...new phone

Very powerful, yes.. but.. NO MICRO SD CARD SLOT!!!

image sensor is IMX220, just a bit behind Honor 7 IMX230...

challenge now is to see which one in real life runs better...

"apparently" there is a local SG Meizu dealer - the company sent some meizu phones to IDA for testing ... and they "said" they have plans to sell Meizu phones locally, via dealers and telecom

alternative, you can cross the causeway, JB has many authorized dealers ...

anyone got this yet? How does it compare to the mx4 pro?
Seems like there is a heat issue and the battery life is not as good.
Read that it lost 20% overnight on just standby.
