Compared to the other movies in Marvel's cinematic universe 1 and 2, Ant-Man is the least ambitious in scope. With its rehash of a tired formula in the superhero genre and an incredibly weak villain, Ant-Man would be an epic fail if not for Paul Rudd's charming performance, down-to-earth characters who are not larger than life like our team of superheroes, and an offbeat, humorous script which does not take itself too seriously. In fact, the tone of Ant-Man feels more like Guardians Of The Galaxy than any of the Avengers movies.
And of course, the effects department is crucial in making everything about Ant-Man believable, like the vast armies of ants and the world seen from their eyes. Unfortunately, the sub-par post converted 3D effects did not manage to elevate the whole movie experience as the effects are barely there.
