You can go upstream or downstream the Danube. It's relatively flat and should make no difference.

I went on to Budapest so cannot say anything about Amber Trail. Budapest is lovely and quite dramatic in terms of scenery. Overall, Austria was the best looking country in Europe. Scenery was just fantastic.

The good thing is if you make your own packs and something bad happens or you need more cargo capacity you are in a great place to buy more gear. :)
Have read that they say it's better to do upstream.

I travel real light. Did a two weeks winter trip with approximately 15l.

Many years ago I did France from north to south; Lille to Monaco and then into Italy's Po Valley. I then rode into Austria to follow the Danube River to Vienna before heading into Czechoslovakia and Hungary. (I've done almost 20 countries in Europe, Middle East and North America. Self-supported.)

oh my...can share your photos?

It's been a long time so maybe they've done some things to the Danube network but I wouldn't think so. Just my opinion! I would have to do it upstream to tell the difference!

I've seen pictures of bikepacked bikes and you really will have to pack light. If you are going in September, then, I would go towards Budapest rather than Amber Trail. The weather may be getting cooler up north. Not sure how much difference it would make but safer than sorry.

And, for this trip, no worries about packing light because you are going to be surrounded by all sorts of shops and facilities. I managed to find 700x30(?) tyres in Kitzbuhel!

Along Danube River, there are lots of Bread & Breakfasts just beside the cycling path that cater to cyclists.

Sho all chiu really nid is a credit card and minimal clothing.

Bicycle touring (Radfahren) ish really popular in Germany and Austria.

When I cycled along River Danube 15-20 years ago, met lots of grandpas and grandmas cycling with picnic baskets on the front of their bikes. When they got tired, they just stopped along the riverside and laid out their picnic mat. They were very generous as they offered to share their french loafs, cheese and wine with me. As you travel along the Danube, you'll tend to meet the same few families, who are going in the same direction as you are, at the various towns along the way so it's easy to find good company.

Also came across lots of German families with toddlers that cycled along that route.

Hope you go during the apple season cuz there are lots of apple tress in those valleys.

Certain towns like Vienna, Prague and Budapest have cobblestone roads and those can be quite uncomfortable to cycle in. Also, do beware of tram tracks and remember to cross them at 90 degrees. Not fun when chiur front wheel gets caught inside that groove.

There are camping sites around too.

But if chiu want to travel light, credit card bike touring ish the best option.

Alsho Europe ish not rike Sg. Their mountains is REALLY quite high. Chiu can granny grear up a slope for up to an half and hour and still not be anywhere near their summit. So to carry heavy camping gear up those steep mountains ish really not for everyone but the fittest of cyclists.

I didnt have any camping gear and yet the first few mountains on the way out of Budapest towards Austria oleady almost grinded out moi kneecaps.

I'm not going to the mountains. I'm only doing the Southern Black Forest. Also flat. I've been to Europe before and know the conditions lah. That's why I chose the easiest route to cycle, Danube River trail.

There's only a few hills there! And I was fully loaded with four panniers, tent, pad, and sleeping bag stacked on top of the rear rack.

Now, Bolzano to Innsbruck...that's a bit of a grind.

$410 can get edge810 ??? no way. unless you talking about pounds.

and sadis..$40 is not really a different.
absolute terms not alot.

relative term is aloot

40/200 is around 20% off.

mine point is that it will have discount eventually, no point being a first mover for consumer product.

Well, it was tough those last kilometers into Budapest. It had been raining so I was wet, cold and hungry. I got in to the downtown core near the river at around 6-7 pm. Quite dark while I was cycling around looking for my hostel which was not too far away. Finally ate dinner around 9 or so. Rough day. :s22:
