Aiyo...the shoe dosnt have the shine there before because you probably did not bother to shine it in the first place. What kind of shoe maintenance steps do you usually carry out on your pairs regularly?

I'll be honest, this kinda shine is nothing special, just wax coat + brush/cloth buff. Even a recruit in tekong can do better give or take 5-10mins.
Dude. With enough coats instant polish can do even better. I should post a pic of my boots here..

Anw Tuv is quite set in his ways lah. What with $70 resoles and being a little insistent that he wasn't ripped off.

What TUV paid (for topy + heel) is pretty standard pricing. So technically he wasn't ripped off.

Just that it was misleading to call that a "resole". Even if someone can do a real resole for $70, I'd be very suspicious of the quality of that resole. The resoling process objectively should not cost that little in a place like Singapore.

=s $70 is a little expensive for a topy. I did mine at Masterfix for $50. It gets into ripoff territory if the service provider represents it as a resole.

Sorry if I was being a little awkward in my phrasing.

thanks dude

might consider the rain last then

Rain last is wider than Simpson but the instep isn't that high to a significant difference. I have a lace-up wholecut oxford in Rain and it's pinching my foot bridge due to my high instep. The fit eventually got better after couple more of wears.

That being said, if you have a high instep, more likely than not, a derby fits you better than an oxford. The open lacing allows for more generosity in the instep, unless one is content with having a large gap in the facing (the lacing area) wearing an oxford.

As josephkjc mentioned, get a Vass rather. Price is steeper than Carmina. Even their 'U' and 'F' last (known to be narrow, albeit sleeker) fit me comfortably. I will just have to 0.5 size up. Note that I have wide + high instep + short feet.

Ed Et Al is clearing their old stock to pave way for their 6th collection. Thus, the initiation of "end of season sale" (30% discount). I suggest that you get their 5th collection during the sale and not preceding series.

Alternately, I would recommend Atelier LLYR for that price range and they are also a local brand as well.

It's too bad they don't stock larger sizes (UK 9.5).

I agree with you that it isnt "rip off" territory. Average price for the two jobs prolly around mid 50-60. So 70 is a decent variance depending on material (JR heel toplift etc) and location (rental) of the cobblers. Last but not least, a man's money is his to spend. Whether wisely or not Idgaf lol.

Im just wanted to point out that the somewhat "great shine" is really just normal and nothing to shout about.

It is absolutely absurd that anyone considers the F last "narrow" or "sleek" , or feel the need to "0.5 size up" for the F last. Doing so would likely mean the shoes would definitely not fit you.
The F last is incredibly generous in the toe box and instep, I size down by half in fact, from a UK 8.5 to EU 42. And the shoes fit well. But I will not be able to say this works for everyone. Vass' sizing is very tricky but going up 0.5 for the F last is definitely wrong.
Some people take the same size for the U and F last. But for myself I take 42.5 for the U last, more or less my "true size" (I know All in a Day hates this phrase). On most days I feel that I am in between UK 8 and 8.5, probably a bit closer to 8.5.
EU 42.5 likewise, in terms of length, falls somewhere in between 8 and 8.5 UK.
