u can get the 1-day bus pass for Kyoto.
for Osaka, there are metro passes that include discounts to certain attraction. u can calculate to see if it is worth it for the places u are going.
there are metro passes for Tokyo as well. but I personally think that the savings is not much, and it is more convenient to go by JR trains for most places in Tokyo.

Hey everyone,

Really need your advise if the below itinerary will work or it will be too tough. We will be traveling with 4 wheelers luggage those standard large Samsonite size type. Will it be too tough to bring it around in Hokkaido ?
Will be visiting during WInter festival next year. If the below itinerary works than will confirm our hotels/ryokan

09 Feb
Day 1: Reach Sapporo and visit Odori park for winter festival
Day 2: Sapporo (Shireikoibito park etc)
Day 3: Otaru Day trip
Day 4: Asahiyama Zoo
Day 5: Ski Resort (Either Niseko or Tomamu)
Day 6: Ski (either 1 or 2 day ski still pending)
Day 7: Train to Abashiri > Shireitoko > Stay at Utoro?
Visit Aurora Fantasia show, Snow Night
Day 8: Shiretoko Drift ice walk (early in the morning)
Wonder any other purpose there? Don't mind staying 1 more night
Afternoon fly back Tokyo.
Day 9: Tokyo shopping
Day 10: Disneysea
Day 11: Shopping - Harajuku, Ginza,
Day 12: Shopping Tokyo, Ikebukuro
Day 13: Night flight back SG

Willingly to extend the trip if need be.

Appreciate if you guys can share if the route seem messy or doable.

Thanks!

Day 3: Otaru Day trip
Day 4: Asahiyama Zoo
[there is winter festival in Asahikawa, can take a look as well]
Day 5: Ski Resort (Either Niseko or Tomamu)
[Niseko seems quite out of the way if u are already in Asahikawa. maybe u can find some other ski resort that is near Asahikawa or along the way to Shiretoko?]
Day 6: Ski (either 1 or 2 day ski still pending)
Day 7: Train to Abashiri > Shireitoko > Stay at Utoro?
Visit Aurora Fantasia show, Snow Night

Day 9: Tokyo shopping
Day 10: Disneysea
Day 11: Shopping - Harajuku, Ginza,
Day 12: Shopping Tokyo, Ikebukuro
[Ginza is near Tokyo station, while Ikebukuro is nearer to Harajuku, so better to swap these two. no plans for other parts of Tokyo, or have u already been to Tokyo?]
Day 13: Night flight back SG

Willingly to extend the trip if need be.

Hi Evilerniex,
Planning to fly in to CTS and out from airport near abashiri to Tokyo.

Planning to visit tomamu purely for its Ice Village. Can't find any that are fun yet. How is the route for Hokkaido ? Did you manage to drag ur luggage easily in snowy Hokkaido?

I have not travelled to Hokkaido during winter.

for the route, I think it will be better to go straight from asahikawa to shiretoko instead of going to ski.
maybe u can visit niseko from Sapporo. so the route will be Sapporo -> niseko -> Sapporo -> asahikawa -> shiretoko.

if u there is nothing much in tomamu, u can make it a day trip from Sapporo. there is direct ltd exp train from Sapporo to tomamu and it take about 2hrs.

I would suggestion having 7 days in Kansai.
breakdown could be something like this:
Osaka 3
Kyoto 3
Himeji + Kobe 1

ur sunrise tour starts in Tokyo or u have to make ur way to hakone urself?

25 mar - Arrive at Narita at 845am. Planning to go over to Hakone. How should I get to Hakone from Narita. Likely to be using JR Pass ?
26 mar - Hakone
27 mar - Hakone to Kyoto
28 mar - Kyoto
29 mar - Kyoto to Osaka
30 mar - Osaka
31 mar - Osaka to Tokyo
1 apr - Tokyo
2 apr - Tokyo
3 apr - Tokyo
4 apr - Tokyo
5 apr - Tokyo
6 apr - Tokyo
7 apr - Tokyo
8 apr - Tokyo
9 apr - Tokyo
10 apr - Depart @ Narita

1) Based on above planning, I think it will be good for me to get the 7 days JR pass right. But I understand that JR pass will not cover my trip to Hakone fully. There is another Hakone free pass?

2) I plan to do a day trip out to Nara park also

1. yes, it is worth it to get the pass coz the round trip from tokyo to osaka/kyoto and back is almost the price of the 7-day JR pass.

for hakone, JR pass only covers until odawara. u can get the hakone free pass to get around hakone since the transport ard hakone is not covered by the JR pass:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2358_008.html

2. u dun really have many days in kansai area. i would suggest leaving hakone out of the 7-days of the JR pass in order to have more days in kansai to go places like nara. i.e. head straight from narita to osaka/kyoto on day 1, then travel from osaka/kyoto to hakone on day 7.
u can also head back to tokyo on day 7, then get hakone free pass to get to hakone on another day
