Anyone has a honeywell AP? Mine has the musky smell coming from it. Checked online and other people has been complaining about the wet dog smell. Without any filter, there is no smell. But with the NEW hepa filter (no pre filter), the smell is there. I went to physically smell the hepa filter and there is no smell. Anyone any suggestions?

Change the filter then.

As mentioned before (a lot of times), over here, my experience is that you'd need to change it 6 months approx. Smell gets worse and worse. For 2013, 2014 and now 2015. 2013 and this year 2015 particularly bad. Culprit could be the ug/m3 load.

But some are not bothered by that. Hence 12 months. Push to 18 months also can.

I bought some second hand air purifier before. Eg LG LA-Q379SB. 1 year plus. I see the filter, pretty black...bad shape. Powered it on, WTF.....smell is crazy. Hence they wanna change to a new unit, there is no replacement filter available for the LG.
For me, I just customise Taobao HEPA for it.

The hepa filter is a new one. Just got a new one to change the 2 yr old filter as i thought that the smell was caused by the old filter.

No idea. I have no experience with it. My concern other than O3 and NOx (see wiki), is how fast can it clean the room.

With no fan to push air through it, I suppose it would have to rely on diffusion of the PMs to clean the air. No idea how long it would take, say, for a typical HDB living room.

Electrostatic percipitator. No fan no media.

Similar design for car ionizer, but the metal contact for cleaning air can be turning black or dirty somemore, have to wipe this for maintenace purposed

The car ionizer can be clean smell like durian in car.

I remember reading about people complaining about the new filter smell. Think it's from the gasket? The only way is to run it long enough for it to clear. (I had a 50250 but traded it off before I get to change the filter)

Wow...then have to run the AP for a few days liao.

The Taobao filter also has a bit of smell when new, but goes off after about a week.
The smell isn't objectionable though.
