u always need to rma ur TBS cards

6280 => 6281
V1.2.1 6285 => V1.3.1 6285
now V.1.3.1 6285 => maybe they think u wanna chut pattern to exchange for the latest 6205 since the 6285 already EOL quite some times

ur 6285 also quite old, out of warranty? :s11:

last time no overheating problem, now got overheating problem?

Still have warranty. My 6285 has two years warranty.

No, last time already had overheating problem the moment I got it out of the box but it wasn't obvious to test it out until I knew how to test using TransEdit program. Before that I always encountered the card failing after a random period of time, sometimes a few days when I make the card record from the 3 or 4 tuners. I didn't know what happened. I thought it was my computer ventilation issue.

However, it turned out to be not the issue. When the technician on the other side used TeamViewer into my system, I could see what they used to test. So when I ran TransEdit on all my 4 tuners on the card, it roughly failed after a hour or at most a few hours. But TBS refused to RMA my card for me, citing that the card works, when I already told them that it has an instability problem.

Really fed up.

but this overheating thing is just u assume one, right? it can be due to other issue, right?

dun talk abt ur test, we talk abt ur recordings

u r using npvr for ur recordings, right?
sometimes, the NDigitalHost.exe has died and that particular tuner never recover from it, causing it to lock up
then later NDigitalHost.exe died again, causing another tuner to lock up and so on
in the end, all the tuners kena locked up until u reboot the pc to release the tuners

next time, u might wanna look at ur nrecord.log(and 1,2,3)
search for keyword "failed" and see whether do u have any "Failed to read from an IPC Port: The pipe has been ended."
few lines down maybe can also see "Trying to force restart of NDigitalHost on next stream request..."

anyway, this is just assuming
ur problem maybe something else

maybe can make it a habit to reboot ur pc once a day

and for ur daily long hours recording, also make sure ur tuners got enough cooling lor
even my USB tuner(since not bringing ard) is inside my casing to enjoy the cooling

**hearsay Hauppauge will be releasing a Quad PCI-e tuners soon, dun noe how true is it

I am pretty sure that the card itself has a problem, and out of the box somemore. Dun forget that I already have TBS6281 and I have not experienced problems with the latter card.

Anyway now I'm using DVBViewer Pro.

oh, thought u still using npvr
so what's the reason for u to dump npvr for dvbviewer pro? :s11:

some ppl got problems with 6281 and hvr2200, why u dun have problems with them?

and why the 6285 works perfectly for others but some have problem with it?

DVBViewer Pro is better.... sometimes NPVR screws up on the video timing information and does not write it properly to the TS file making it impossible to seek using the mouse when viewing some files using the players.

What kind of problems with 6281 and HVR2200 as u mentioned?

As for why 6285 works perfectly for others but not mine, maybe it's hardware problem for my card and not others lor. Like that u also have to ask meh? :s22:

that problem is super rare, maybe 0 or 1 recording out of a year recordings

anyway, for important recordings which u wanna keep, best to record duplicates

aiya, all brands of tuners got their own problems one lor
google can see a lot wor

some tuners dun work properly on certain pc but when tested on another pc, it works fine
some tuners cause pc to hang at POST but when tested on another, it works fine
some even need the mobo makers to release bios update to fix tuner's problem
blah blah blah
in the end, also dun noe is tuner problem or pc problem already

Yes but my TBS6285 really fails out of the box (notably the 1.3.1 version that they sent to replace the previous non-1.3.1-compliant version). The previous one worked fine stable when recording 4 channels. I am really upset with them and will now recommend against buying TBS stuff.

I suppose that's because of poor support?

so previously when they exchanged both your old cards to V1.3.1 revision, also poor support too? :s11:

Oh, so u mean they gave me good support last time round means they dun have to give me good support this time round? :s22:

no but u mean tech support must always say yes to all customer's request?
just becos they never give u what u wan now = bad support?

anyway, since dun noe what really happened between u and the tech support, so maybe pointless to carry on with this

Of course that's not what I meant but at the very least they should honour their warranty.

What is the use of a card that only works for a few hours when all 4 tuners are in use at the same time? :s22:
