buy giant units for living room
cant expect them to be bedroom friendly

both are too loud at high speed for bedroom.

low to medium speed is viable, I am sleeping next to my xiaomi ap every night at medium speed.

I think anything below 50db is fine for day time, 40db and below should be ok to sleep.

You must factor that the noise generated by the AP is a constant brown noise, which is less distracting and can help aid sleeping for some people.

If the Xiaomi is one meter away, it is possible to sleep with it set to auto. But if you are light sleeper, Xiaomi on night mode is only as loud as your desktop pc(normal web surfing)

Yep...ard there lah. I'm aiming for the 326 m3/hr mode, 54 dB @ 1m, in-room non-anechoic measurement. ~29W is cool for years extended operation. (provided that this MIC china pdt does not blow lol!!) Nidec motor is cool, but the PCBs and "OS", hopefully....

I'm taking a gamble. mindgamey XM's figures and the china sites dB SPL figures are not made in anechoic figures. You play hifi, so you know how much reflectivity the room can impart.

I suspect the AX40, Sharp, LG etc...are all made in an anechoic chamber. I mean, they just send it out to a lab for testing, get a signed certified report, publish it out as official specs.

So yeah...maybe, just maybe, the Xiaomi and M8088A are not as loud as they seem on the meter, though I really do not think they are anywhere close to the AX40 or even the LG 459/379s. :s13: My darn SPL meter is faulty (long time no play hifi) so I can't get a good measurement for the AX40, 459, 840, 501 blah.....to compare with the specs.

based on my measured spec and published sharp spec I am recording about 2-3 dbA higher.

45 dbA is doable if you are used to sleeping with a standing fan on. the fan will drown out the noise at auto/low mode.

Xiaomi night mode is not pushing enough cadr, I don't recommend, auto/low speed is decent for the cleanest of days. Medium is minimum if outside air AQI is >150.

Yeah...any AP, never ever use night mode for sensitive folks. People use night or low mode and complain sonus/rhinitis still there. Lol

Ya who will cover warranty and support it?

Plus it's more suitable for bigger rooms.

But WRX, at least RMB199 is original filter less concern with performance/contamination.

I also resisted recommending Xiaomi products to non-chinese because some UI are in chinese.

I know there will be folks who still prefer originals for a piece of mind.

And buying from TB is not entirely straight forward especially for non-chinese but hey this M8088A can only be bought from TB right? :p

LOL

Yes it will work, but inefficient when using 2 fans. 2 HEPAs in series is a lot of air impedance, better to use one single thick piece.
And the wooden enclosure will cause yr AP to double up as a non-THX certified, kickass speaker :s13:

within margin of error. more powerful but I think it's slightly bigger 260mm vs 340mm.

what I like abt this sort of layout design is that at jet mode it can really circulate the air around the room very well.

compared to my sharp a50 back in top out, at times of very bad haze just changing the direction of air intake can make the sensor change color and that is at max speed.

for AP with back intake try to place in enclosed room in this manner.

not too close or too far from wall. Find sweet spot
