Hi Guys,

Planning to purchase this diamond from Jannpaul :

Diamond type: Super Ideal Cut
0.94 E VS2
Setting design : 18K White Gold ring side diamond setting DR0676

Quoted $12300 + the ring setting which cost about $1200.

What do you guys think?

i paid $6200 (with setting) from JP with the following specs:

Shape: Round Brilliant
Weight - 0.60 carat
Color - E
Clarity - VS1
Cut Grade - Excellent
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Excellent
Fluorescence - None
Clarity Characteristics - Cloud, Needle, Pinpoint


But now I calculated using online diamond calculator, it says 0.6c Round, VS1, E is about $3000USD only.

Did I kena carrot already?

If its from JP it should be a Super ideal cut. Online diamond calculators don't factor in the cut quality of the diamond. Cannot compare it like that.

but comparing to other forumer here they paid about $4k+ (if i remember correctly) for 0.6c, VS1, but D (mine E).

my setting is plain, cost $500. so i paid $5.7 for the stone.. somehow i feel i kena carrot. did i?

Sounds about right if you have a plain setting usually it's around $1,100-$1,200. So diamond itself cost about $5,000.

I bought my 0.63 Super ideal at $5,300 2 years ago.

Just got a reply from Casey; mentioned that the white steaks of line that I saw on the Ideal and ASET scope is due to minute light leakages on the girdle which is common for all diamonds.

Having said that, that will not affect the visual light performance of the diamond itself

I dont think you kena carrot, the price is quite worthy for the super ideal cut. Normal diamond you see online won't be super ideal.

But thanks to your post, I am calling JP now to check about the amount that I need to topup. Cause it seems quite steep.

That's about right.
Got my 0.506 solesfera for 4.7k on stone only. There was another 0.5x super ideal cut going for 4.15K already when I was pondering over which one to take last week

Previous diamond: 0.46 E VVS1 with plain setting total $4k. Total trade in value is $3.6k. I also need to topup $250 extra for a new setting.

I was told to topup a total of $3.2k. Is the amount ok? Or was I charged extra?

Edited: OK, my salesperson made a mistake, he mistook that I wanted a new setting with side diamond and charged me an extra $500. Lols

Hahahaha.. very similar to my wife... she was quite cool and calm when i update her on her ring progress. Then when she see the finished ring.. she went bonkers

Thus all in all, your new 0.61 E VS1 would be $6.55k worth of value combined excluding settings.

Back in Sep, got one member got quoted $5150 for 0.61 G VVS2 super ideal.
Then further back in Apr, someone here got quoted the below from JP:
.41 G VS2 was just under $3k
.53 G VS2 $3950
.56 G VS2 $4250
.606 G VS2 $4950
Apr another member saw one 0.59 F VS1 at 4.9k
From this thread someone got quoted by JP a 0.61 F VS2 at $50xx in 2013.

Looking at the trend, your E VS1 seems a bit more superior compared to the above examples taking both color & clarity together & at >0.50c, better color & clarity probably will translate into higher cost compared to when it's <0.50c.

Only comparing to JP prices for above examples. If you take into considerations of other brands/shops' same specs and compare, I think their cost definitely >$6.55k and not forgetting their cuts won't be as good as JP's super ideal

Just my 2cents of thoughts. hopefully got other experts here can chip in too

Yeah a bit steep if you upgrade later cos you might need to redo the settings. From my experience one should try to save and aim for >0.5cts to be a "reasonable" size. But of cos that shouldn't the factor to stop you from proposing to your love. I personally would take a 0.5ct Super Ideal over a 0.42ct Solasfera.

And the diamond ring you need to clean it from grime with warm water + mama lemon + toothbrush + hair drying often to let is be at it's prime.
Otherwise it will look dull if you wear it over a period of time with hand washing etc.
